Maybe it’s just me but it doesn’t bother me in the slightest that Lorelai asks Luke to marry her. I just didn’t like that it was at a point of personal turmoil that she had asked, it almost felt too reactive.

I saw an interview with Scott and a fan asked him, "How long has Luke loved Lorelai?" His answer - "He always loved her, but he just hid it."

I think the moment Lorelai gave Luke that horoscope, Luke fell hard for her. He kept it for 8 years, in his wallet, and never told her that he still had it until their first date. What an epic moment to reveal the truth about how they met, and to show how long he felt that way about her.

I like Lorelai asking too but I agree with the second part too.

I really do feel it was love at first sight for Luke. I think Lorelai was a little different and she was distracted by raising Rory to notice Luke in any way more beyond a friendship. I feel she started coming around in season 1 and started noticing him in a more romantic context.

I get what you’re saying. She saw how much he cared for Rory in that moment. I am curious how a proposal would have played out under different circumstances.
