I understand your POV & I’d agree to a certain extent, I just don’t think that all of them neglect furthering a SL. Perfect example would be in Castle, where Beckett’s SL was deepened and moved her character to open up to Castle about her mother’s death around Christmas.

Aww, that’s sad. Everything is relative, there are always exceptions. If you’ve got strong writers who can make one of those kinds of episodes work and be entertaining, then mission accomplished.
