That was Ian McShane from Deadwood. who won. Good point about the "amoral antihero" thing. Wonder if that should be it's own category?

Wow,great pictures of Alexis and Milo. They're a really good-looking couple of actors.I think Alexis looks good and older in that dress, maybe she likes it that way.The dress is of Armani or Gucci, isn't it,she wore it also in black(Mandy Moore wore it also that kind of flattering way)sometimes. However, thanks for posting them.bye Pia :) *So happy that they're together in real life*

Sorry I got the days for the Press Tour mixed up - well it was technically never confirmed.

Ausiello at TVG has though - the GG Panel Discussion (with the entire cast - that means Scott is going to be in 2 places at once) is on Saturday - so make sure you check out the entertainment programs later on :)

OK, I wanted run this by you and let me know what you think. Over at The Watercooler at TVguide.com, this was posted.

"Just noticed something odd about this GG repeat (original episodes begin again next week): Luke introduces himself to Emily Gilmore's housekeeper, saying, "I'm Luke." The domestic staffer responds, "I'm a maid." Then, she quickly scuttles off, looking as if he's crazy for making eye contact with such a lowly sort as herself. What is this — a 1930s movie where the African-Americans just make brief appearances as servants eager to do Massah's bidding and begone before incurring his displeasure? By the way, where are the black folks in Stars Hollow?"

My response:

"Hey, Dan. Just wanted to respond to your comment about the maid. It had nothing to do with being black, IMO. It had to do with being a maid for Emily Gilmore, a woman who fires her maids for walking too loudly. As Lorelai once said, some maids have escaped Cuba, but five minutes working for Emily and suddenly Castro's lookin' pretty good. It would be enough to put anyone on edge and probably not used to having someone actually engage them in conversation. As for no black people in Stars Hollow, what about Michel?"

I don't usually respond to something like this. Does it sound ok? Be honest.

Cmbarry, thank you very much. Yeah, I considered the whole "token" argument, but I'll say it anyway. I think some people tend to forget that Michel is black because they just automatically think of him as French ;) I also thought of mentioning how you can see many minorities present in the town (at town meetings, events, etc.) but figured someone would just make the comment of never having any more substantial roles.

I live very close to Vermont. And while they are certainly there, it seems that the minority population in smaller towns is, well, in the minority.

Uh... that's what most minorities tend to be. :D J/K So, Stars Hollow is not that far off reality-wise? Good to know that!

mandypandy1981 01-19-2005 11:48 AM

I hate when people take something that small and make a big deal out of it. I live in a small town too and where I live there is one place where most of the Afican American people live and the rest is pretty much white. When you have a show that is mostly about a White American family the rase is the majorty, Just like The Cosby show it was very rare that you would see whites on the show. So please stop makeing nothing into something. Its 2005 not 1960 we all have the same rights. :embarrassment:

From The Futon Critic:

Top 50 Episodes of 2004

22. "gilmore girls: raincoats and recipes"
(originally aired may 18, 2004)

Possibly one of the (if not the) best episodes of the series to date as Luke and Lorelai finally have their first kiss - only to be interrupted by a naked Kirk during one of his night terrors.

Gilmore Girls made it onto The Futon Critic's list of 50 best episodes of 2004. The episode? Raincoats & Recipes at #22. Read more about it here.

I'm Black American and I can understand why some Blacks may be angry that they aren't really potrayed in the show (i.e Friends) with the exception of Michel. I don't feel the same way though. To me it's a show. I don't care what type of nationalities/ethnicities the cast is made up of. I just look for good television, but that's just me.

ETA: I heard that AI4's ratings for last night was aroudn 33.5 million. That doesn't look good for GG does it?

mandypandy1981 01-19-2005 06:09 PM

I wasn't offened I was just makeing a point that just because there was not any with the ex.. of Michele that the show was not raicest. :look:

As for American Idol Rateings it was the season permier and yesterday was a rerun. But I am sure GG will have big rateings Next week. I know I will be watching GG. I did not watch American Idol.

aussiekate 01-19-2005 08:11 PM

American Idol is what I call a fad - its the sort of show that GG isn't expected to compete with or beat. If they use the ratings battle between AI and GG to decide whether to continue with the show they are fools!

soulstarshine 01-19-2005 10:39 PM

American Idol doesn't even come close to GG, in my opinion. ;)

When Gilmore Girls debuted in 2000, it brought to the WB a quirky, comedic drama that attracted a multigenerational audience. Newsday's Diane Werts wrote of the show, "Who knew family friendly could also mean hip, clever, and hilarious?" The quick-witted dialogue and unique relationship between young, single mother Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and her daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) has made Stars Hollow a destination for both teens and their parents. The Museum will screen highlights from the show's one hundred episodes, and creator and executive producer Amy Sherman-Palladino and members of the cast and creative team will answer questions.
