Hi everyone!

We currently have an open moderator position on this message board. If you become a moderator here, you'll be joining a great community who'll provide you a support network and add to the fun of being a moderator. If you'd like to apply for this position and if you have any questions about the requirements, please go to the Moderator Application Process - How to Apply & Questions Answered thread and follow the instructions to apply to be a moderator on this board.

Please note that the deadline to get applications in is 6:00 PM GMT on October 21st If you don't receive a confirmation Private Message within 24 hours after you have emailed your application, please send a Private Message to Cátia.

Please don't use this thread as a “campaign thread” for someone you think should get the position, because we want everyone that's interested in the position to apply.

Is there a limit to how many board one can moderate? I can't apply, I live outside the US in a time zone that wouldn't allow me to be active when everyone else is (+2GMT). That, and the fact that I have never moderated anything in my life. I imagine one needs to be impartial and I don't think I can at times.

I am not in US either, so that is not a problem. There are certain rules as to what you have to follow, but all in all, it is just good fun and this board is full of nice posters

And I believe the limit is usually four, but some people are allowed to moderate five.

Not being North American has nothing to do with it

we've got posters/moderators probably from every timezone or close too it

I am aware of a lot of Aussie moderators and posters

Think it was increased to 5 couple years ago where it use to be under certain situations but think overall its up to 5

The 5 board squad

use to be apart of it

There is a fantastic mentorship program where veteran moderators can help newbies if a new moderator wants help from an experienced moderator

Hello, rpmaluki.

Location/time zone is not relevant for mods. You don't need to be around when others are. That's the beauty of a message board.

As far as how to be a mod, here is some information about what a Mod is and what is expected:

They are members that have been chosen due to their enthusiasm, leadership qualities, and their respect for their fellow posters.
They have proven themselves to have a solid history of posting on a variety of threads and a true interest in the whole board.
They can have an enormous influence on the message boards they moderate, and their contributions can determine if a forum is going to be a success here.

What does a Moderator do?

Close continuation threads after they've reached 300 posts and a new thread has been started.
Update Board Guides and other threads as necessary.
Start discussions and participate in the discussions on their boards as much as possible.
Post on their boards at least every other day and participate in a wide variety of topics.
Be approachable and professional, and try to answer posters' questions as quickly as possible.
Welcome newcomers, help resolve disputes between posters, and make sure that posters adhere to Fan Forum rules.
It's fine for moderators to be members of a ‘shipper’ group, but they need to deal with any issues that may arise on their boards in a fair and impartial manner.
Visit the Moderators Forum on a regular basis to stay informed and get to know other people in the moderator community.
Of course everybody needs time away, we just ask that you let us know in advance.

You can learn more about being a mod here. You can also directly talk to Em or another mod or any of the Managers to learn more. We're always here to help and answer questions.

And, as Sarah mentioned, we do have a great mentorship program for new mods.
