Yeah maybe it was improvised (because of the their reactions and the fact that it wasn't common back then to kiss in the middle of the dance in front of everyone, lol). Either that, or maybe the director said to do that to show the fact that despite it not being common back then, Anthony was so in love that he went with it and Kate got surprised because of it. But I'm leaning towards the first scenario, lol.
