With the ER cast, there's definitely the feeling that they could be real people working in an ER. Laura Innes said about the original cast:
"They got these six people together, and they LOOKED like real people … maybe except for George" |

I always loved this exchange from 09x21 - "When Night Meets Day":
Firefighter #1: (Firefighters are talking with Susan at the Admit desk) The old paint factory on Hudson was probably the worst: hot as hell and the smoke... Firefighter #2: Couldn't see your hand in front of your face. Abby: Isn't the fire outside, boys? Firefighter #1: It's out. Abby: Really? Then shouldn't you be rolling up your hoses, heading back to the station? (Susan joins her in meeting an ambulance outside) Feeding that little spotted dog? Polishing your poles? Susan: Are you cranky or flirting? Abby: What? Susan: 'Polishing your poles'? Haha. __________________
Abby: I was pretty sure I was gonna hate the NICU.
