Why is he sometimes called dandelion or so? In german he's called "rittersporn" which means "Knightspur"

Well buttercup is used as an insult and means someone weak in english. So i can understand they felt the need to change it.
But no idea what dandelion means. Well in german they also changed his name, but rittersporn or knightspur is actually something more heroic as a name. So not entirely fitting to him either. __________________
