Nick shook the coat vigorously as snow continued to fall in the desert. Looking skyward he squinted, searching for his answer, but he spied instead a question. In the distance under dark shadows, a figure lurked. Nick shuddered at the thought of what it could portend out of. He realized that, whatever it took, he must make certain that the figure remained where no one would detect its presence. Wind started to pick up and howl loudly in his ears. Reluctantly, Nick headed away from the safety of the darkness to the unknown light.
Whatever happens, Nick knows that the survival of everyone is in his hands. Walking stealthily through shadowed halls, he advanced, step by step until he felt confident enough to quicken the pace. Soon he broke the cover and managed to get close enough to gain a fraction of a view of his target. Silently Nick took the next step. He cautiously took a peek around the wall and made sure that no one could see what he intended to do. The freezing cold wind blew fiercely but Nick couldn't feel anything. His hands were numb, cold and stiff, but he still continued to do exactly what was planned. Despite the obstacles that stood in his way, Nick stood ready and willing when suddenly he felt the deadly sting of terror encroaching. He shuddered and determined that he would succeed in his mission. Fear rooted in stomach-churning discomfort, haunted by thoughts of his duty wracked his soul. How could he possibly know __________________
