Don't forget they were supposed to start shooting a couple of different times. And it seems like there is some carry over from last season's originally planned storylines. I remember Kennedy saying stuff in her interviews last year that match up with some stuff that was said again for this season. Plus, they probably had their production meetings where they were told some stuff...not everything though.

That was my literal first thought. Coupled with Kennedy's Q&A makes me think we're on the right track. Based on interviews from last year, her (and Leah), would have absolutely hated playing a cheap love triangle with Nick. Also, we know Kennedy is a huge Ace/Nancy fan. In the Q&A, she said she liked Season 2 more than Season 1...do you really think she would like Season 2 better than Season 1, if she was in some love triangle with George over Nick? So yeah I seriously wonder if they are really doing a slow-burn with Ace/Nancy using every possible trope (including a short-term, plot driven love interest for Ace that will annoy/angst Nancy (who should not be dating ANYONE right now)).

I guess the longing looks could also apply to Bess's relationship drama, but I thought it was interesting and possibly deliberate that Kennedy was the one to ask the question?

I guess it also could be non-romantic longing looks, but that doesn't sound quite right.

And I seriously doubt the writers can that much about the fandom, but there's loads of people out there rooting for Ace/Nancy so...


Nick would say that. Poor Ace...he just wants a promotion! And Kennedy...LOL. If that wasn't scripted...

I love how much Kennedy and Leah hate the triangle idea. It's one of my least favorite tropes I would have been so sad to see the show take that route. And I love how Kennedy seems to be an Ace and Nancy ship. Yeah my mind went straight to Ace and Nancy longing looks too. I think the ship might begin to (slowly) sail next season. And I could see them incorporating lots of tropes. Idk if this sounds weird but it would be kind of nice for Nancy to have some smaller drama (Ace dating someone else) as opposed to everything else going on with her. I just don't want it to seem fan-service-y since like you said a lot of the fandom seems to like the ship.

Love triangles are one of the most laziest conflicts you can do. They're rarely ever done right and all they do is ruin characters and fandoms. I know they'd do whatever they were told, but I'm seriously glad they didn't really want it to happen. Nancy and George fighting over Nick would be so WTF anyway. Only third party "obstacles" are okay if used sparingly and done well to advance a ship that needs to be pushed together a bit.

Actually, that's not weird at all. It probably would make Nancy feel relatively normal in light of recent events. In fact, I could see her saying something like that...maybe to one of her friends or one of her dads.

Ace/Nancy really wouldn't be fan service though. The writers are the ones who wrote al those scenes with them and it's only a natural conclusion. Fan service would be like the writers putting Nancy/Bess together because people berated them on twitter or something. That's a bad example (but not exactly untrue either!!!). Hopefully, you get what I mean.

I like that Kennedy and Leah are also anti-love triangle. Hoping for some good Ace/Nancy longing looks next season ala the diner moment.
