Must have been his paternal instincts. He knows that behind all that madness she’s still his daughter. So he couldn’t just let her suffer.

And for Alice she was so scared and vulnerable in that moment she just wanted to be held by her daddy.

I guess losing so many members of his family to crime in Gotham (Martha, Gabi and Beth) hardened his heart. But he still has love for the people he has left.
