Chase.This.Light 08-02-2009 11:18 AM

Yeah, thanks Jen.

JenMixelle 08-02-2009 04:11 PM

Title changed.

Questions coming up.

Chase.This.Light 08-02-2009 04:14 PM

Dora's in the hot seat until the 14th and then we'll need to try and find some other poor suspect.

Chase.This.Light 08-03-2009 03:28 PM

Dora:

What's your fave colour?
Fave food?
Fave book you've read?
Last book you read?
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
If you could visit any country in the world, where would it be?

That'll do for now

cute_kitten 08-05-2009 07:19 AM

Here you go Karen:

What's your fave colour?

That is most definitely blue, I've loved it since I was a small kid, I think it has to do with the Smurfs :D, it was my favourite cartoon back then. I've also infected my parents with it, so now our balcony and our garage have been painted blue so even our neighbours direct their visitors to their house by the "house with the blue balcony". I find it cute and original as people usually use orange or yellow to paint their houses, so it stands out ;)

Fave food?

Oh, there are several dishes, but I would have to go with the boring pancakes ;) I really enjoyed Asian food, with all those noodles and vegetables, while I was over there though, didn't think before I'd like spicy food so much but you never know

Fave book you've read?

After all these years, it's still Gone with the wind although I read it while I was in high school and it's been erm years since then :D There is just something about the way the author describes the characters and the time that everything comes alive in front of you, at least that's what happened to me. And knowing that she used Clark Gable as the base for Rhett also helped with the visualisations

Last book you read?

It would have to be the tour book on Vietnam (I hope that counts ). I didn't want to carry too much with me on holiday and there there were hardly places where you could get books to buy, so this was a nice enough read. I very much recommend Eyewitness Travel guidebooks, they are truly thorough and also point you to things Lonely Planet guidebooks may not imo. And now I am reading the book I am currently translating but don't think I am entitled to tell you what it is just yet ;) I bought a book at the Munich railway station but haven't gotten to reading that one yet.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

To be honest, I actually quite like it where I am now, it's a great neighbourhood close to the capital. I can't imagine living in the city centre, I like to get out of it whenever I am there for a while. Although I could also imagine living in Berlin, albeit I don't really know how that would look like since I've only been there twice for a month and have never worked there (the German labour market is still closed for Slovenia unfortunately). But the general atmosphere, openess and diversity of the city in terms of population, architecture, the cultural scene, cuisine, etc. is something that definitely appeals to me.

If you could visit any country in the world, where would it be?

There was a time when I would say Ireland but unfortunately there is not much to do in Strandhill apart from surfing and perhaps going to Kian and Jodi's bar  It would still however be nice to have a nice holiday home somewhere around those places ;)

The next country or better put part of the country as it is not a country in itself that I'd like to visit, if I'd get the chance, is Tibet. I would however need to be much fitter to be able to walk around those high mountains, plus the situation there changes from one day to another. My family also sends money to a local school there and our first "adopted" child has already graduated from medical school (traditional Tibetan medicine) and now we've started supporting a girl. I would love to visit the school somedayand perhaps also meet the kids we've supported, I think it would be a lovely gesture.

cute_kitten 08-07-2009 05:06 AM

Just have a bit of time after lunch, so will answer Jen's questions first...

First ever celeb crush?

Oh man, had to dig up the name of this guy as I was 8 or 9 years old at the time and was more occupied by drooling than by actually reading all the actors' names. He acted in La Boum 2, the 2nd movie of a trilogy relating to a teenager growing up, played by Sophie Marceau. Of course I very much envied her character for all her gorgeous love interests and this guy appeared in the second movie - was really envious of her lol.

Anyway, this actor's name is Pierre Cosso and here's a pic: http://media.s24blog.at/26562/200802...recossoalt.jpg (managed to dig up a German article in which they found him doing cruises in Polynesia for tourists together with his wife and kids - I just think I got an idea for my next holiday . Just check under http://www.pierrecosso.com/), that's his website, where he advertises the trip - too bad it's only in French...he was tall, blue eyes, he wore tight jeans...pretty much anything a 8-year-old dreams of ;)

First crush in real life?

Do childhood crushes count? I no longer remember how the guy looked like but there was this Italian boy that came to the kindergarden I went to when I was about 5 or 6. I still remember his name was Samuel, I thought it was so sexy. Unfortunately for me then he fancied his cousin, who also went to the same kindergarden, so I remember telling him that you can't marry your cousin or something to that extent  He moved away at the end of the year though and I was quite crushed at the time.

Which movie always makes you cry?

I actually just watched Breakfast at Tiffany's yesterday with Michael and even though the movie has a happy ending, the final scene is so heart-breaking and sweet, that I never fail to cry. And Moon river is just an unforgettable song (Mark Feehily made me a very happy woman when he decided to sing it ;)) Oh, and Love story, I always keep on hoping she'll stay alive, that also gets me to weep.

What cheers you up without fail?

Michael has this really funny but for many people weird sense of humour, which fits very well with mine, so when he fools around, he always makes me laugh.

Although of course the prevalent pattern is chocolate in any type or form. Preferences are of course Lindt chocolate with cherry flavour and Max (Slovenian ice cream composed of black chocolate ice cream, covered with white chocolate - yummy :D). You get the pattern

Is there a song you have especially vivid memories of?

Again, it goes back to La Boum, which were probably the first foreign chick-flicks I ever saw in my life. The first movie featured a rather depressing song which was like an anthem to me every time I was unhappily in love:
YouTube - Richard Sanderson - Reality

And then it was the song from the second movie which made me dream of also getting a guy like Sophie Marceau's character does in the film ;)
YouTube - Cook da Books - Your Eyes

Here is a video I found from the movie which features the song:
YouTube - La boum 2

And then it'd probably also be My heart will go on, as I was heavily obsessed with Titanic when it came out and My love from WL since it always reminds me of Ireland

What type of music best describes you?

Good question, I'd actually probably say it'd be George Gershwin's music, since it's a mixture of jazz and classical music. I love both genres, depending on my mood, I can be unpredictable and ignoring the regular rhythm like jazz at one moment and the next I can be flowing gently, all calm. A typical cancer I'd say, with changing emotions :D

And George Gershwin just happens to be my favourite composer ever, go figure...

I'll answer Karen's questions later, when I have some time...

Finished working for today so 2nd round before Michael drops by ;)

Are you a shoe girl or a handbag girl?

I am definitely more of a handbag girl than a shoe girl, which probably also has to do with the fact that I've always had rather sensitive skin on my feet so blisters were rather common, sometimes I'd even bleed, very unpleasant. This means that I prefer not buying too many shoes and even when I do, I usually go for the more comfortable ones exactly so that I don't have to worry about getting a blister as soon as I exit the shop.

Plus I love having matching handbags with my outfits ;)

What languages do you speak?

Apart from my own (Slovenian), fluently it's English and German, which I've learnt since I was a kid and obviously I use them at work, which means a lot of practice (too bad though that I am not practising the speaking part as much as I'd want, exactly because my work requires a high level of the written language. And then there's French and Italian, which I master enough to be able to get home from the police station if that is necessary

I also had to speak Latin once at school - the teacher tried to fail me, I believe I was the only in that year to have to actually speak the language - but that doesn't really count as a spoken language does it

Fave 5 songs at the moment?

To be honest, apart from checking my e-mail here and there and random news from home, I was mostly "turned-off" during my holiday, so it's just old songs that I like that I keep playing on replay - Downtown by Petula Clark, If you're going to San Francisco - no idea whose is that, How deep is your love by the Bee Gees, Mandy by Westlife and since yesterday Moon river from Breakfast at Tiffany's again. I mostly listen to radio stations while I work, which means listening to what they play, my favourite atm is RTL Radio from Luxembourg: RTL RADIO, which can also be listened to online. They've got loads of music and little talking, which I love :D And I listened to the radio stations available on the plane while travelling there and back, which included random songs they had pre-recorded.

Last album you listened to? It was A-ha's latest album, Foot of the mountain, Michael and I are planning on going to their concert this autumn. The style is reminiscent of their original music, Foot of the mountain is my favourite song from it, I really love its beat. Here is the video to it: YouTube - a-ha - Foot Of The Mountain

Dora, OMG, I can't think of anyone else remembering Pierre Cosso!!!
Check this out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hs2-4aDd2xk
It's from "Cinderella 87" (or something like that, I have to find out what exactly it was and how I can get it ). He's... :sigh:

Chase.This.Light 08-07-2009 02:22 PM

Dora, is this the song you mean?

album: Forrest Gump (1994)
genre:

If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna meet some gentle people there

For those who come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people with flowers in their hair

All across the nation such a strange vibration
People in motion
There's a whole generation with a new explanation
People in motion people in motion

For those who come to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

We'll just have to book a cruise with him Jen :D Apparently he's still yummy (and the wife and kids could be thrown off the boat - just kidding ) The movie Cinderella 80 is also on Youtube, if you'd like to watch it. Have never seen any other film he's been in but perhaps I could start now ;)

It is, Karen
