not that interested in their past associated to High School -- seemed he was a jerk and even before Prom with that flashback with Rosa, Liz wasn't sure about Kyle

So I rather ship them in present

I think it was hard for he, since he was a jerk to her best friend and had the typical jock problem. That and Max was her best friend. I'm sure she liked him back then and was torn. It's harder for her to connect with him now because of Rosa.

That's where it certainly is cause Kyle certainly grew to be a remarkable caring human being despite how he was as a teenager

I think he probably learned his lesson after his father died. He wanted to make the man proud, so he did his best to be an upstanding citizen. That and I think he missed Liz as much as Max did. I think he probably regretted being a jerk, because it didn't get him anywhere.
