Maybe they go off and see the world a bit?
Like sure Alex got to see some of the world, but that was mostly war zones. And I don't think Michael has even been out of Roswell. What if they decide to take a vacation (and are able to) and they leave town for a bit to see some of the US? Like taking a trip to the Grand Canyon or maybe New Orleans? Like they take a road trip or some sort of trip and get to spend time together and be happy? __________________

Perhaps something goes down during the season and one of them say Michael for example is like I'm tired of not really living my life here on Earth. I want to see the US for a bit, I want to not to be constantly having to put my life on hold for others. I want to go on an adventure and he asks Alex to come with him.
Though it could just as easily work for Alex too. Where he wants to go on a trip and unwind and he wants Michael to come with him. __________________
