Her side of the mirror was smudged, so she had to flip it.

Do you know that a lot of the gags in Raiders of the Lost Ark were unused jokes that were originally meant for Spielberg's previous film, 1941?

Never saw 1941. Or heard about it.

You never did? It's a World War II comedy that Spielberg directed in 1979, in-between Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's based on the war paranoia that hit the USA following the attack on Pearl Harbor and the fears that many Americans had of an imminent invasion of the west coast by the Japanese. The movie was co-written by Robert Zemeckis(Back To The Future, Forrest Gump). It was loosely based on actual events that occurred around that time, like an actual Japanese submarine that attacked an oil refinery off the coast of Santa Barbara, California; the infamous "Zoot Suit" riots in Los Angeles in 1943 where young American servicemen got into fights with Latino youths; and the Great Los Angeles Air Raid of 1942, which was suspected to be a Japanese air attack but turned out to be a false alarm.

The film stars John Belushi as a US Army Air Corps fighter pilot and Dan Aykroyd as a US Army tank commander. A lot of unused bits from that movie ended up in Raiders of the Lost Ark, like Thot taking out what looks like a chained sectional stick to threaten Marion with, but it turns out to be a collapsible coat hanger. That was originally going to be a gag for Christopher Lee's Nazi SS officer in 1941.
