Oh, those three losers. I can't believe that Joss Whedon did something so juvenile. But then, he really wasn't paying attention to Buffy or Angel by that point. He was too wrapped up in Firefly, which was a total waste of time.

Actually, they were quite funny.

They were funny, but a bit too funny. They looked like a parody of villains.

Parody was an important part of Buffy, particularly the villains, from the Master onwards.

it's hard to think of them as villains

I agree with Rita. There was a certain amount of humor with Spike and Drusilla, Mayor Richard Wilkins III, Glory, and even The Master. But the three geeks were just a little too silly.

On the contrary, they fit season 6 perfectly and were damn funny. They weren't meant to be the big villains of season 6. That was Willow. And Warren qualifies as a villain quite well, since he all too realistically murdered his ex and later shot Tara and Buffy. The other two geeks were never meant to be serious villains, just misguided guys. I don't think it's wrong for the show to try something more complex every once in a while and the Trio was an example of that. They were probably some of the most realistic characters the Buffyverse ever had.

Good point about Willow, although that was a bit too derivative of Dark Phoenix.

Aww, cute photo!

It was a homage to Dark Phoenix. Dark Phoenix was referenced onscreen.

I know. Joss Whedon was painfully obvious.

It's good to reference Dark Phoenix.

That storyline is a bit overdone, isn't it?
