anyone watch the new sacha baron cohen miniseries called The Spy?



^ its a curio for me, because hes 'hollywood's biggest clown', its a hard sell to see him play straight faced

he doesnt quite pull it off, because he still relies on wearing disguises, masks and 'playing someone other than himself'. but roland emmerich (stan beeman from the americans( does save the show

I read a review today that was praising his performance, said it was very different from his caricature like roles before and called it calm and restrained. I can't judge yet because I haven't watched but he was playing a spy who had to change his appearances, so the disguises are no surprise.

Apparently he was going to do it but then there were creative disagreements so he left.

word was he wanted to also be a producer as well

the creative disagreement was he wanted a more serious take on freddie mercury as opposed to the caricature we saw, which is ironic because SBC is the biggest clown

but in turn, the film made a billion dollars due to that watered-down caricature, as a result SBC missed out, he could have had another hit if he just tagged along

but sometimes life just works out like that

the deal with SBC is he has that elastic look in his face that makes him so easy to laugh at when hes doing comedy. maybe he should wait a bit longer to do drama, because hes actually plain looking when he chooses to not be an exaggeration->



^ he just looks like another one of the 99.9% of white men out there. while hes a comic genius, its the creative team, ie those who control the tone of his comedy that make him effective.

He's almost 50, it doesn't surprise me that he chose to go for more serious projects now. He'll also be in Aaron Sorkin's movie The Trial of the Chicago 7.
