I've started it, I watched 3 episodes today. It was really cute. I think its extremely unrealistic lol. What 15 year old actually asks a guy to have sex with her? I cant imagine that happening that way lol.
With that said I like the representation on the show and its quirky, so I found it enjoyable. I def. prefer Paxton to the other guy right now, whose name I cant quite remember. I typically love hate to love romances but I felt like he was just TOO mean. And IDK, there something off about him and their chemistry, I'm not really feeling it. Paxton is kind of a jerk right now too, but he hasn't been that bad. The main girl is SO cringey that I can understand why he reacts this way. I do like his backstory thus far. Speaking of Devi or whatever her name is, she is so over the top and honestly sort of annoying. lol. She keeps doing really stupid and dumb things and shes a bit of a brat, but we'll see where it goes. |

I binged the whole thing yesterday. I really enjoyed it. found the ending kinda predictable but then most teen shows are.
I do agree with you about Devi. she is over the top with doing such stupid stuff. I cant believe anyone would want to be her friend __________________

I love the show despite its flaws. It definitely has one of the most diverse casts I've seen in a long time.
I think they could have gotten a different actor to play Paxton. He is way too old to be playing a teenager. __________________

Thanks for that. They definitely left a few things on the table for a possible season 2.
Anyone have a preference for Paxton or Ben? __________________

I actually think her friends were mad at her a lot, so they did hold her accountable. She was a pretty bad friend but I think her actions were understandable. Its hard not putting a guy you like over them at that age when you really want a boyfriend etc. I think they were kinda rude when they yelled at her in front of everyone at the party, they could have just talked to her about it privately instead? Its not like she intentionally dumped the punch on her friend...
The Paxton actor is old to be a teen, which was an odd choice, but i do think he can pull it off. Quote:
I think she should be with Ben for a while but hopefully we'll get some more backstory on Paxton next season and that will continue to develop. I'm on episode 7 right now, will finish it today. question: are any of the accents real? they seem very dramatized to me? Last edited by Alexa; 05-04-2020 at 08:47 PM |

I LOVE that show.
Her mother was quite hard on her, all the time, even when it was not necessary. Her friends were right to be mad at her, she was way too obsessed with Paxton. She was not a really good friend, But it seems that all the shows I've watched lately the main character is pretty luch self centered and her friends are there for her but she's never there for them. Pretty common these days. But at least it's been adressed. I like her relationship with Ben, but here comes the love triangle for season 2... __________________

the actor that plays Paxton is 30 yrs old and Devi is only 18. talk about a huge age gap on the show.
what I dont get is the mother kept freaking about about her going to parties and kissing Paxton but suddenly she was ok when she ran away from home and lived in ben's guest house for a week? she could have been doing who knows what during that time ? __________________

I think her mom knew how mad she was at her, but it was strange she didnt seem to care she had moved out lol.
I just felt like the Ben romance came out of nowhere. They had this fun hate relationship going and then suddenly shes moving in with him and then he tries to kiss her, which she rejected, then kisses him in the finale? It was WAY WAY WAY too rushed. I dont get it. The finale kiss LITERALLY came out of thin air. I would have preferred if they just became friends this season and then maybe next year the romance could have come into play. Quote:
Navid and Teddy were in their 30's playing teens on 90210. I am sure there are many more examples lol. |

There are many actors that are older than their characters, but some can't get away with it. They look too old.
I don't know who I like her with. I can't say I'm fond of either guy. Do you think they'll really move? Maybe they'll go back for a visit but not stay permanently. __________________

I think both guys have their strengths and their flaws and I don't think the show is really fully putting all its weight behind one or the other of them. They've both been jerks to her. She has been a jerk to them. Both have things that make us feel warmly towards them. With Ben, it's that he's essentially a child who has had to raise himself and is not a top priority for his parents. With Paxton, it's protectiveness (and almost too much defensiveness--whose clothes were awesome) over his sister.
I don't think the Ben stuff came out of nowhere. I think they started building it up starting with the UN episode when he felt like he made a genuine partnership with her. He even thinks the only reason his girlfriend is with him is because of his money. I actually think Paxton's interest in Devi had a more tenuous foundation even though he was her primary focus in the first season. He largely decided to pursue something because his sister gave him a push and I think he trusts her opinion quite a bit. But we are headed for triangle territory. Ben does still have a girlfriend. And Devi was pretty obsessed with Paxton throughout the whole season. I thought it was a really interesting showcase on how important wanting to feel liked, cared for and even loved can be to teenagers. Devi, Ben and Paxton all dealt with it in some way and it informed some of their romantic overtures. __________________
