I rewatched this today. It was cute. But I still had some issues with it lol...

1. Josh’s storyline felt incomplete
Hearing that he was in the book more makes a lot more sense because otherwise I guess I didnt really see the point in having him in the movie at all. Like, it really seemed like she liked him in the first half but then they had very little interaction in the rest of the movie. I just wish they had better conversations about her feelings for him and how they went away etc. They had a brief scene at the end but it was so last minute. Also, it really seemed like Josh liked her too and was jealous of her and Peter... again, why even do that if they weren't gonna go anywhere at all with it? I just thought it was weird writing. I'm not mad necessarily because I like her with Peter too, but it just felt odd to me. And he didnt even get back with Margo.

2. We didnt get backstory on the other two letters she sent
In the diner scene she tells him she wrote two other letters and it just kinda made me want to see the other two guys. I guess they can save those two for the sequel or whatever? iDK, i have no idea what happens in the book. I know there was that bit at the very end of the film which was funny (though why did it take him 3 months to respond? lol) but some flashbacks of the other two guys would have been a cute thing to add in quickly I think.

3. It bugged me that she didnt tell Peter in the diner scene that she wrote the letter years ago and also that she didnt send it.
He tells her on the track is cant happen, shes confused, then sees the letter and understands. Then she kisses him to throw off Josh from confronting her. Which is fine, that scene was cute. But then in the diner he yet again rejects her and while she tells him she wrote 4 other letters it really drives me insane that she doesnt say to him "look I didnt sent the letter. and I also wrote that years ago, i never intended for you to read it" or SOMETHING of that sort. IDK, it just bothered me that he always thought she wrote it recently or something lol.

4. The scrunchie!
It was already discussed but it also bugged me that a) Peter didnt grab the scrunchie from his ex immediately after she took it from him. And b) that Laura Jean didnt even notice that it was gone. I realize they wanted to bring it back in later for the ~drama but it just seemed they could have done it a better way idk. Also she never even got the damn thing back!

5. The first real kiss felt rushed
For me the whole hot tub scene was rushed. One minute they are pretending to date, then shes breaking it off with Peter, which sure, it implied they had feelings sort of? But there should have been an intense look or more of a moment in that break up scene. Then the next scene they are together is the hot tub one and she just gets in and starts to kiss him. To me it felt like rushed/dropped in there. They were fake dating and then they suddenly werent. I wish there were few more scenes in between to bridge the "i have feelings for you now" thing... idk

6. The Laura Jean/Enemy SL wasn't resolved?
They had that fight in the bathroom at the end which sounded awkward enough as it was but then, that was it? There was literally no resolution whatsoever to that scene. Like, to be honest, Laura Jean did kiss Peter back in 7th grade and then shes stealing him again now? Its kinda crappy of her and yet theres like, no punishment whatsoever to LJ for that. The least she could have done was apologized I think for taking Peter away.

Alexa, the other letters will be addressed if we get sequels. I did find it weird that they kept that John Ambrose reveal in the trailer but that clip didn't appear until the mid credits scene.

I don't see why LJ has to apologize to Gen though. Like she said, it was "Spin the Bottle" and even she suggested to spin it again, but Peter didn't want her to. Gen was being ridiculous with that, I thought. LJ did nothing wrong.

This movie is the cutest. It really set the bar high for teen rom coms especially, IMO.

Giving a boy a peck during spin the bottle does not equal stealing a boy and it's ridiculous that Gen would be this upset about something that happened when they were like 12 and didn't lead to anything.. She actually never stole him, he picked her over Gen.

Same, Paula. And it's true for a bazillion other fans too, probably. It's insane, someone pointed out on Twitter that Noah's IG followers was less than a million before the movie was released and now, it's nearing 10 million followers. This movie (and him) really struck a chord with viewers.

I feel like people don't give Lana enough credit though, she made LJ such a relatable character and without that, people wouldn't be rooting for Covinsky half as hard. She's as amazing as Noah, honestly.

Lana Condor was just as amazing. She was so sweet and relatable.

They better do a sequel.

ITA The movie was by no means original, besides the lead but it was still such a good teenage comedy. The only parts that I didn't like were the already mentioned scrunchie and that Peter dind't reach out when the video from the hot tub got released.

BTW, who is in a board rewatch? Maybe a weekend in October?

i agree lana is just as awesome. they were both so great in the leads

i was reading a lot of people are talking about how LJ got into the hot tub in her nightgown but when she walked back into the hotel it was dry and she still slept in it. everyone wants to know how that is possible

im totally up for a rewatch. i loved this movie

OMG, yes, I was so confused that it managed to dry so quickly. Even if they sat outside the hot tub for some time, they were in the mountains.
