Yup but unfortunately for this franchise, the backstage issues played a huge part of that. That's why there are 2 versions of Superman II. lol But after that, the franchise got ruined for backstage events.

Superman 4 was low budget and was with a new company... so doomed to fail.
Sad thing is that originally the franchise was suppose to have 5 movies but no one expected craziness to happen after Superman 2.

Behind the scenes issues ruining a movie is cringe-worthy if you think about it. I would think anyone who writes or directs a movie wants to do their best and be close to what the other parts of the series are like, but that never seems to be the case or things simply don't mesh. It's unfortunate.

To celebrate 40 years since the Original, "Superman: The Movie" came out, they will be releasing the extended version of the movie in the theater....

It will be showing at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Yonkers, NY.

A rare theatrical screening of the 188 minute extended version, originally created to air on TV in two parts.

40th Anniversary screening

Decades before blockbuster Extended Cuts were common, Superman proved a true "Man of Tomorrow." Superman: The Movie received an ahead-of-its-time makeover for its television premiere - nearly 40 more minutes of story, creating a two-night television event. We celebrate the 40th Anniversary of SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE by screening the rarest cut of Richard Donner's superhero epic.

Yeah and it seems to happen all the time.

That's awesome! My parents are from there, but too bad we don't live there. My dad would have loved it. Thanks for posting!

And yeah, that's unfortunate.

I think I definitely prefer the Donner cut for Superman II. The France bit is always ridiculous. I really don't like Superman coming back to the diner and beating up that guy, even though he deserved it. It felt so beneath Superman and OOC to do that.

My other complaint, so there's explanation for Superman got his power back. Like, okay, he found the green crystal, but like how did he get his powers back? Next time, you see him, he's flying to the Daily Planet to confront the Kryptonians.

I loved the end of Superman II. lolol I loved it so much that I didn't see it out of character...

I do agree with you on the explanation of how he got his powers back wasn't really explained well.

Those are interesting points. When I rewatch the movie, I'll have to pay attention to get my thoughts on it since its been awhile seen I've seen that one.

I mean, Superman is not a bully. On one hand, I'm cheering for him for standing up to that guy, but on the other, it makes me cringe a little bit.

I think this is from Stephen Amell.

I think it depends on which version of the movie you are watching.

Because in the Richard's Donner cut, the scene at the diner makes no sense. Because Superman spins the earth back in time.

Now with the theater version from director Richard Lester, that scene in the diner made sense because Superman did not spin the earth back in time. He just kissed Lois to make her forget the moments with Superman.

So, I guess it depends on which version you are watching. However, I felt the scene was pretty perfect... that guy was basically in the dinner bullying everyone on a daily basis... it was needed. lol

You are correct, you watched the Richard Lester version.

The Richard Donner's cut is totally different. Like very very very different. lol However, some things from the Lester film appears in the Donner version since he never got to complete his movie since like 80% into the movie, he got fired... which is why there are 2 versions of the movie.
