I know right?! I love it because it adds a layer of humanity to him, this whole episode shows that he's not just a merciless killer, he's not a monster; he's flawed and human and made terrible, horrible mistakes that he paid for dearly. He tried to be a good person and the world chewed him up and spit him back out. It shows everyone can lose their humanity.

Yes!!! People either learn by their mistakes, or they don't. Negan let his mistakes rule him, and he ran with it. But does show that even all that, he got his humanity back many years later.
