I think people exaggerate everything in the name of feminism now and I get tired of it -- however, people like him do exist. Jim Hopper represents the typical two-sidedness of being the loving father figure and also the hot-headed temperamental guy when it comes to romantic jealousy. That's not uncommon in the real world. Jim's insistence that Joyce needs to move on from Bob so damn quickly was extremely pushy.

yeah but what's unrealistic about it is that he never gets abusive. at least I haven't really seen anyone like it. IRL these kinds of people get aggressive at some point but Jim's temper is mostly used for comic scenes, like "oh it's so funny he's angry all the time but otherwise he's a real hero". he would never hurt any of the kids or Joyce or anyone that belongs in the family circle. he's got insecurities and he gets jealous over nothing but it's never serious.
