It actually started years before the WC, even when they first got the bid, everybody knew there was corruption involved. They had no stadiums, had to move it to winter bc of the weather conditions, ultimately dirupting European fotoball season. There have also been reports of migrant workers being basically enslaved to build stadiums and a lot of them died.

LGBT+ rights were also at the forefront of all oncversations.
