Top Ten Athletes

I'm not sure if there's already a thread for this, but I'm curious to know who you all think would be good enough to make the list--of course, only the athletes who are still doing what they do i.e David Beckham--can make the list; also, you don't have to just use a list: discuss why you think they're the best.

I'll come back with mine later, which are mostly all guaranteed to be footballers sue me

I'll have to think about it to really answer the question... but obvious choices though, for me, in a top ten of athletes (as far as current ability goes) would be Albert Pujols, Roger Federer, and Lebron James.

What criteria? I mean, just athletism would lead most of the list from the NBA. I mean, who wouldn't have people like Bron Bron, Shawn Marion, Amare, Kobe etc. You wouldn't logically take someone like Tiger Woods, who is the greatest in his sport while still in his prime. If you put each sport against the other in like a decathalon of sports, who would come out on top? I don't think any baseball players outside of maybe Rocco Baldelli (hype) could compete. Who would have the speed, strength and jumping ability to take out Randy Moss? Who could tackle him? I could see Tiger doing his Deion Sanders impersonation and dive for his legs from 10 yards away.

I'll have a list, but it might be really off

Good thread topic. And, I don't think we have a thread like this around here.

It'll definitely be interesting to see everyone's answer because it will obviously vary, and as mentioned, the criteria will be broad, to put it mildly.

1.Tiger Woods
2.Tom Brady
3.Roger Federer
4.Shaq
5.Kobe
6.Lebron
7.A-rod
8.Albert Pujols
9.Dwyane Wade
10.Annika Sornstam

i based my list on how goo the players are in their respective sports, winning and their popularity outside of the sport. Although someone like Federrer makes it off sheer dominance not so much national recognition.

Just the ones now.

Okay, here's my first ten (who says you can't come back with more? )
If I feel like I'm missing someone, I'll come back with a more reasonable one. (they aren't in order)

1. Ronaldo: In my opinion, possibly the best striker on the pitch today. He's got great skill and talent, and despite what his WC critics said, he still left Germany with the most World Cup goals (combined, of course).

2. Ronaldinho. Best player in the world...need I say more?

3. Shaun White: he's just awesome at what he does, in skate or snowboarding.

4.Roger Federer: Winner of multiple grand slams, and a consistent player...winning nearly a hundred percent of his matches.

5. Yevgeny Plushenko: Aside from Yags, he had the most creativity on ice I'd ever seen, I'm so glad he got his gold.

6. Tom Brady: This guy's a great QB; his throws are sooo good.

7.Tiger Woods: I'm not a golf fan, but he's been remarkable.

8.Andre Agassi--so he hasn't retired...yet, so I'm gonna put him down here...his play has and will always be classic to those who can truly appreciate tennis.

9. Apolo Anton Ohno: He's a great short-tracker...really good.

10. Sasha Cohen: Yeah, she screws up sometimes, but her creativity on that ice is enough to turn heads.

Oh, I know I'm cheating, but an honorable mention to Germany's number 13, 7, 20, and 11; they made me nervous for my fav team

Hannah, talk about stealing my list!!!!! You said you were only going to do almost all footballers

If you're going to take my ideas, say so, okay?

No, I'm not really mad....just a little irritated...

Ooh Davide, I love your list with numbers 2, 4, 5, 7 and 3, even though 3 and 7 aren't what they used to be. I like it!
I would create a list, but I really have too many to name only 10. Besides, I think that to do a list as such, you'd have to pick one athlete from each sport and that's too hard!
