Sports Video Games

Whatcha play?

I mainly play Madden 2004, or old school Nintendo games like Tecmo Bowl, Super Tecmo Bowl.

I don't like too many video games, always been more of a PC game fan, but that's beside the point. So the Colin McRae rallies are big fun. And yeah, WRC Rally on PS2 is good too. Still, McRae 2 is favourite for some reason. Moto GP 3 is nice to play at times too, but it's not that interesting in the long run, since all the tracks are so similar..

I may be a bit of odd football fan, but I really don't like the football games, any of them. guess I still have trauma from childhood when my brother made me play those games way too much . Same reason why I stay far away from hockey games *G*. All in all my game tastes do tend to be quite un-sports like..

Wel, Madden 2004 I have is for the PC I don't have any video game systems, though i'd burn games and use emulators and play them, wel I used to, the thingstopped working for some reason, which is alright, as I have a new onsession.

I always have to have a sports game, I have to run things my way I always do fantasy drafts and make trades so I have MY team the way I want it.

Heh, I actually have just one video game system now and that's my brother's old PS1 which I only use to occasionally play Wipeout . Other than that, yeah, it's PS all the way, with a bit of NES thrown in thanks to an emulator of course . Have been kicking my self in the head for having sold our old NES years back. It's just ridiculously much fun playing the old Super Marios and such and noticing how you still remember the fields and all .

But to go back to sports.. At least someone in our family is keeping up the sports playing: just noticed said brother was playing some American football game on PC *G*. Me? I'm still on a Star Wars kick with Knights of the Old Republic *g*.

Almost finished an NBA Live 2004 regular season, before my computer fried. Dumped backups of it all over the place on other partitions, will try to get it going again over the weekend.

I'm currently about to start my 4th season with the Bengals on Madden - I haven't had much success so far, however (two losses in the wild-card round with a 6-10 season in between). And considering that I have been forced to release/trade Carson Palmer, RT Willie Anderson and Corey Dillon this off-season to stay under the cap and keep my team, I doubt this'll be the year the Super Bowl is brought to the Queen City.

We can always hope my rookie QB (a young Brett Favre, according to my scouts - please God let them be right) and second year RB can carry the team, but somehow, I doubt that.

How the hell did you lose those guys? How is tying up all your money?

My teamis way under the cap at this point (week 9 season 1) but i have some high priced guys (Lewis, Reed, Shockey, Leftwich) plus alot of young guys who will want bigger real contracts.

Palmer had a 7 year, $40m contract, so a lot of money went there. RE Justin Smith and DT John Thornton have long and expensive contract too, as had Dillon. Palmer wasn't very good last season anyway (167 of 339 for 2829 yards with 19 TDs and 20 INTs), so I'm not too dishearted at losing him.

I've played three games of season 4, and am currently sitting 2 and 1. If anyone's interested, here's my team courtesy of Madden's nice report feature:

I almost always do the drft feature, it's bad sometimes as you can't get all of the stars on your favorite team most of the time. Like I couldn't draft Lewis and get Boulware, or for Indy, no way of getting P-man, Marvelous and Edge. I did take Baltimore on one franchise and I traded Jamal Lewis for McGahee and a draft pick, Andre Johnson for Taylor and draft picks, but i couldn't get Buchanon for the life of me.

Is Madden 2004's Dynasty Mode really robust? I've heard great things about it, while NBA Live 2004's has been...pretty lousy. The salary isn't even real, but instead on a scale of 1-300,000 "points".

They have a trade meter, so you can tell how one sided a deal is, unfortunately, the computer will NEVER trade if it's not in their favor, or even. And you know what, to me they are even. Baxter was at an 82 and Buchanon at an 86, and i couldn't get the deal done with me giving Baxter AND two draft picks.

This years version has owner features, such as hiring the coaching staff, setting ticket prices, jersey prices, parking prices, HOT DOG prices, add ons for the stadium, gauges to determine crowd demand, as in what they expect of the team, then crowd support and all that. TV revenues. They also have a preseason Mini camp feature, which basically pics a player vs skills tests, if you do well enough, you can raise your atibutes. For instance, you have a running back drill, you get like 2 dummys as olinemen and a fullback, you get lines as to what the play should be, and you have to run. The other team, ok I was running with McGahee, with Alstott as the FB, the defense had Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, you gain off yards and a bonus if you score. There are about 10 skills tests, you can only use one player per test and only use each player once, so if your better at accuracy and want to boost your starting QB, have him in that competition, vs the "in the pocket hot receiver" skill test. I am only in week 9 of season 1, Dan can tell you more about the long term Franchise things.

yeah, i love Franchise/dynasty mode best, as i'm not a fan of "teams" really, but of players, so those modes let me, eventually, have a full team of players i like. And at times, makes me a fan of some players just cuz i have to play with them for awhile, like I'm becoming a fan of Keith Bulluck, he's my outside backer, and i run a 3-4 or I run the 4-6 and he's always called on to blitz, numerous interceptions and sacks so far.

One thing i noticed is that the commentary is a bit better, they niticed mid game that McGahee had just gone over 1000 yards for the seson and that LEftwich had gone over 50 TD passes in a season.

I don’t have much time to play video games these days (DAMN work!!!), but I’ve toyed around with Madden 2004 and NBA Live 2004 recently. I’m not as high on the NBA game, but I’m definitely feeling Madden’s latest version. It’s fun to create your own franchise and increase the stock of young players. I’ve got to check out a newer MLB game just to get my fix and see what it’s like. I’m still playing off a ‘00 version. The rosters have definitely changed since then!

Today’s technology makes sports video games the bomb-diggity, but nothing matches the fun and excitement of Tecmo Bowl. Bo Jackson was freakin’ awesome on that game. He could score 50+ points all by himself! I also loved to play Mike Tyson’s Knockout. It took a while to beat all the boxers preceding him, but I could never knock him out. His punches were *so* powerful, that you'd be lying on the ground after a few hits. I was also a fan of the "original": Pole Position.

I loved those games. On Super Tec, I had 5 raiders rush for over 1000 yards in the same season Jackson, Marcus Allen, Sam Graddy, Willie Gault and Tim Brown Yeah, i'm cool. The thing i didn't like about the original Tecmo Bowl, was it only had, what was it, 14 teams? I loved playing with Chicago, of course, but sleeper teams were Minnesota and Cleveland. the LA Raiders and Giants were always fun to play with. Bo was a freak.
