Bobby Valentine has been named the Boston Red Sox Manager. It is an interesting move. Here is 1 of my favorite quotes of Bobby Valentine during a Red Sox game that Josh Beckett was pitching ''This a 2 hour and 40 minute game so far. That's a half hour added to this game of him standing around and us sitting around watching him do nothing.''

Valentine is either going to be a runaway success in Boston or a total bomb... I just can't see anything in between happening.

ION, Reyes is officially a Marlin. Wonder if Pujols is next for them now.

This just in St Louis loses the bidding race

DALLAS -- The Los Angeles Angels have landed the two biggest prizes of the offseason.

First, Albert Pujols agreed to a 10-year deal for at least $250 million with the team, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney on Thursday.

Then the Angels agreed to terms with left-handed starter C.J. Wilson on a five-year, $77.5 million contract, his agent Bob Garber told ESPN.

Pujols' deal includes a full no-trade clause, which Pujols had been seeking and may have been a sticking point in his negotiations with the Miami Marlins.

Pujols had turned down an offer from the Cardinals, the only team he has ever played for, about a year ago, but St. Louis was still in the bidding as of Wednesday.

Pujols is a three-time MVP who batted .299 with 37 homers and 99 RBIs in 2011, the only season in his 11-year career that he didn't have 100 RBIs or hit better than .300. But the 31-year-old did battle an arm injury.

Wilson was 16-7 with a 2.94 ERA for the Rangers last season and made his only All-Star team. He made a league-high 34 starts, but it was only his second full season as a starter after five coming out of the bullpen.

Garber had said that his meeting Tuesday with the Rangers was "great" and that he was "pleasantly surprised," but there were indications that Texas was not comfortable going to five years for the 31-year-old.

Cardinals had offered him 5 years at 20 million ,wow to hold out for a few more million and not stay with the team that he won the World series with . goes to dhow you it isn't about teammates and loyalty it is all about the money .

Greed over loyalty.

i know Red Sox have a 1 year arbitration deal done with David Ortiz . not like he wouldn't get big money but nobody would give him a long term deal . He us 36 if he stays healthy could hang in there another 3 yrs-4 years. Just Red sox will see how he does and his health and after 2012 decide if they want to sign him to 2 yr deal

Quote:
Given that Ortiz made $12.5 million in 2011 and posted a .309/.398 /.554 season, he would be due at least $14 million for 2012.

It is not a perfect solution for either side. Ortiz preferred the security of a multi-year contract while the Red Sox wanted to bring him back at a smaller salary.

Terrific news as an Angels fan. Expecting those roster moves to prevent the Rangers from going to the Playoffs again anytime soon. Thanks.

I'm not super-high on Wilson, but the Angels' pitching staff is pretty damn good right now.

Screw the fans in St. Louis. They are acting exactly like Cavaliers fans did when Lebron left, as if this was some gargantuan betrayal and utterly unfair, like Pujols somehow owed St. Louis something.

He doesn't owe them ANYTHING. He gave St. Louis two WS titles, but apparently that's not good enough.

St. Louis and it's 'fans' can pound sand.

Disagreeing with some of their actions is fine, but let's not go that far when talking about fans of other teams. Thanks.

Re: Braun. He's trying to act like he was railroaded now.

Is Cabrera going to DH now? Or is that Prince's primary gig?
