Maybe it's bc I'm a guy, but the idea of putting stuff through my ear seems rather bad to me. Then again there's also guys with earrings.

You mean those simple golden or silver rings but that are oversized? I don't like them either. I think small jewelry earigns are the best looking.

Ugh these, yes they look very ugly. Mostly worn by people who are part of the punk, metal or alternative subcultures. If you take them out your ear is damaged forever and you need plastic surgery to get it look normal again.

Yeah whether it's in western culture or in indigenous cultures, humans tend to love to damage their bodies for what they consider beautiul or ritually important. I guess that is a human flaw.
