I guess whe wanted to leave the show yes. Or the showrunners also decided together with Mercedes it was better to let her go. Maybe they didn't know how to write her out for such a long time again.

Of course as we are seeing now. But her time out wasn't that long and could have easily also happened on ftwd. But maybe she wasn't happy. Or the producers told her she couldn't take a time out for half a season again and hence she only had the options stay and have no time for kid or leave and search for another show after half a year.

i think it was a mixture of both. Mercedes wanted to stop acting for her pregnancy for a while and the show runners being blank of ideas what to do with Ofelia. plus they maybe wanted to kill a character anyways and Mercedes was like "hey i am pregnant always". i can imagine scenario like that.

That too yes, and showbiz is misogynist. As a woman with a kid it's not easy in that business. At least if you want to take care of your kid as well.

What is important is the fact there was no bad blood between the showrunners and Mercedes which means they both had an agreement with which everyone was content.

The cast seems to go on well with each other. Not sure about cast/producers but we haven't heard anything negative so far which is a good sign I suppose that they are in harmony.
