ROBERT Carlyle reckons his character of Begbie in Trainspotting 2 might not have changed that much even though the film takes place twenty years on form the original.

The Scottish Once Upon A Time actor won critical acclaim for his portrayal of the moustached psycho character Francis Begbie in the 1996 Trainspotting film directed by Danny Boyle.

The sequel to the film which will also bring back Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, and Ewen Bremmer in their roles, is set to be shot in May and June as a result of Robert’s other filming commitments, and he can’t wait to resurrect Begbie - with or without his moustache.

Robert said: “Begbie is a crazy character so it’s hard to say if he’s changed. I don’t know the script well enough for that. He is what he is, this guy, and I don’t think people change that much.

"If you look at people over twenty years and see how much they change their hair and look not a lot people do. They kind of tend to be stuck in their ways. I don’t know if the moustache is there or if maybe it’ll be a bigger moustache.

“The first Trainspotting was twenty years ago. There is a difference in my acting style now. It changes subtly as the years go by and as you get older you get a bit less angst about it all and a bit more relaxed in it.”

Although Steve Jobs director Danny Boyle has spoken about his excitement of the production Robert stressed the secrecy surrounding it.

He said: “We are trying to keep a lid on it. I can speak for everyone involved in the production by saying we are really looking forward to it. All the actors, the two Ewans and Johnny. I can’t tell you they are absolutely fabulous scripts and would have to be to entice Danny Boyle and Kelly MacDonald and all other actors to do it. We are very proud of it.”

He added: “As far as I know the plan is to shoot in May and June next year. I’m working until the end of March and I have April, May and June off so will squeeze Trainspotting into it then I’m hopefully straight back into Once Upon A Time.”

He also revealed his children won’t be shown Trainspotting just yet. He added: “Eventually I’ll let them see it. They are all too young but all curious particularly my eldest at the moment. She’s heard about its reputation and is excited.”

I'm getting excited for this movie!

Good news for Trainspotting 2. It has already acquired a major international distributor!

Sony has taken it on which was kind of expected because they typically handle the international releases of Danny Boyle's movies. They usually do a great job of marketing his films too.

They plan to release in 2017 to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the movie.

Also Robert was at the Whistle Film Festival last night in tribute to him and also the premiere of 'Legend of Barney Thomson'

I think this tweet belongs here. So I guess that answers whether we will see Bobby direct another feature anytime soon. Makes sense given that he described the pre and post production aspects of directing as torturous.

I wonder though if we might see him direct an episode of OUAT though. I think he might be interested in directing a Regina-centric.

Aww, would love him to direct an OUAT eppy. Can understand though, with a big project like that understandable that he wants to take a break.

I do hope he goes back to directing one day though..

Little report of someone who was at the WFF watching the Robert interview..

Quote:

1- The Floof is just as fabulous in person as it is on TV! Seriously… the man has fantastic hair!

2- Bobby does amazing impersonations of people! He did a great Peter O'Toole and a dead on Ray Winstone during his interview.

3- That man is in CONSTANT motion when he talks. He can’t sit still… not for a second! He plays with jewelry, he scratches stuff, he rubs things (not in a dirty way, you perverts ;-))… but he never stops moving.

4- Bobby was adorable as he completely put his foot in his mouth and didn’t understand why the audience was laughing until the interviewer explained it to him. He then laughed at himself and continued to be adorable.

5- There is no censoring him… the ‘****s’ were frequent!

6- Bobby’s trailer for “Once Upon A Time" is in the SAME exact spot as his trailer was for "SGU”. He made a great joke about it. He’s got a wonderful sense of humor.

7- He really cares about the people he has worked with and goes out of his way to acknowledge people who have had an impact on his life, whether they are a star actor, a director, or a casting agent.

8- His wife has the most genuine, lovely smile. People respond to her warmth.

9- Bobby really is wee… like more wee than I thought he would be after seeing almost everything he’s ever been in and viewing thousands of photos, gifs, etc.

10- Bobby has a great attitude about meeting his fans and truly appreciates the support we give him.
