I did find it very interesting though that they said at SDCC that Ralph is still too young to really exhibit being neurotic like Walter is. He pretty much guaranteed that Ralph is going to struggle with EQ more as he matures, which to me is kinda interesting because that makes it seem like it's more nature and less nurture.

FoxPhile 10-13-2016 04:42 PM

I would think that the neurosis developed, at least in part, as a result of how Walter and the others were treated growing up - even within their own families, and largely because they had no one who had any understanding of them. To your point, if the neurosis and the EQ issues are all nature - simply a trade-off of sorts for having a big IQ - then it wouldn't matter what sort of environment Ralph grows up in. I tend to think, however, that his environment will be at the very least a mitigating factor. He may still have some issues, but I just believe he'll be able to relate better socially and emotionally.

WeBuiltThePyramids 10-13-2016 05:07 PM

Yeah, considering he's been with Paige all his life - and considering what an effect Paige has had on the grown geniuses - I wouldn't think his natural struggles with EQ would ever exacerbate as much as theirs did.

FoxPhile 10-14-2016 03:49 PM

Exactly. He's had the advantage of a mother who really wants to understand him and who managed to find help to do that. I'm not saying Walter or Toby or Happy or Sly's parents didn't want to understand their children - just they didn't have the resources and had no idea how to relate to them or how to get help. I believe that will make all the difference for Ralph, enabling his social skills and perhaps even enhancing his intelligence or rather his ability to utilize it because he won't have the same issues about exposing his "difference".

:bump:

After last night's episode, this thread needs to be back on page 1.

I wonder, though, what Paige would think of all the - mischief - Walter and Ralph got into?

WriterFreak001 11-08-2016 03:37 PM

I guess she seemed fine with it afterwards... I mean, after the day Ralph and Sly had back in 2x16, I believe she has loosened the reigns a little bit, haha. And plus, asking Walter to watch Ralph shows that she trusts him and trusts him to bring her son safely home. :) :) :)

I really loved how Walter was quick to say, "Ralph, I think your mom's upset." That made me laugh so hard because it's what my father would say to my brother, sister, and I after my mom would find out he treated us to ice cream while she was away for an afternoon. X'D

:lmao: I never thought about it that way - but you're right. He said it just like a dad who's conspiring with the kids!

Me too! Then the way Ralph was like "mom chill it's okay." That's such a family dynamic.

I giffed this last night because it made me happy.

Two very handsome men - and they clean up pretty!

I wonder if there will be any follow-up to what Ralph said to Walter at the end of 3.07. I know wishing for continuity and follow-up is usually a pipe dream, but I'd really like to see Walter profoundly affected by knowing - 100% for sure - what Ralph's wishes are.

If anything, it might help Walter when it comes to Cabe's line in the premiere about Ralph being involved in any relationship he has with Paige too. He knows how Ralph feels about hi - which he doesn't know when it comes to Paige - and he and Ralph want the same things. There's three people involved in that relationship and Walter now knows a lot about where he stands with Ralph. (And Ralph has to know where he stands with Walter or he wouldn't have said what he did.)

FoxPhile 11-11-2016 01:12 PM

Yeah. Walter seems to have taken Cabe's little talk very seriously, but hopefully the fact that Ralph is so obviously disappointed might make Walter rethink just how much he should follow Cabe's advice. After all, while Cabe may know more about relationships in general than either Walter or Ralph, Ralph definitely knows more about his mother - he's shown that he is actually very sensitive to his mom's feelings, and he's willing to do a lot towards Paige's happiness. Walter has never considered Ralph's age as a barrier to his intelligence or knowledge in anything, and I don't think he would make an exception with this. So if he weighs Cabe's advice against Ralph's comments - Ralph may very well come out superior in Walter's estimation.

He's the bigger vote.

Last night I had a dream that when Paige and Tim broke up, the first Dineen to have a significant conversation with Walter was actually Ralph. The dream was they witness Paige and Tim breaking up, and Ralph just sort of looks up at Walter and they share this really significant look.

Now I want to see this happen!
