Well we definitely can't create a board for him. But he's definitely a prominent enough side character to have a thread. I probably won't post in it much because I don't care for him, but I don't think people that like him are in the minority overall. I feel like I'm in the minority on Tumblr when it comes to Collins.

I think Collins has appeared enough that he could have a thread of his own. Although we'll need to be careful that it doesn't drift into an anti-thread.

An anti-thread is one that has a lot of negative discussion, especially if it borders on or gets right into hate discussion. Most threads are appreciation threads - where you discuss why you like a character, actor or relationship. Posting in an appreciation thread about how much you hate a character is frowned upon - since it will upset those who truly like the character. So if we have a thread for Collins, even if the majority of folks don't like him, we have to be careful about allowing it to become an anti-Collins thread.

To expand on this, some boards specifically have anti-threads. The Big Bang Theory doesn't have them (it's up to the mods of a board if they're allowed and most boards, from my experience, don't, since is largely about appreciation) but for example, there could be a Sheldon Cooper appreciation thread and a Sheldon Cooper anti thread. So the appreciation thread would be for people who love him and for discussions about that, and the anti thread would be specifically for people who can't stand him and the discussion would be very anti Sheldon. Anti-threads are usually found on boards for more volatile fandoms, where there are bitter, angry ship wars and stuff like that (the CW network shows come to mind...), and they're used as an attempt to stop fighting on the board, if you don't like this character, you post in the anti thread, and if you do, you post in the appreciation thread, and you stay out of the other thread. I don't like anti threads because if I don't like a character or have less to say about a character, I find it easy to just not post much (if at all) in their appreciation thread, and generally hugely problematic characters aren't series regulars anyway.

Which brings to the subject of Collins - for me Collins is an abuser, a manipulative (often emotionally) figure who uses his former friends/colleagues/family/whatever for either his personal vendettas or simply for his own amusement. So if we open a Collins appreciation thread, my discussion on him would have to focus more on his impact as a character rather than just me constantly ranting about all the things I dislike about him, because that isn't appropriate for an appreciation thread and we do not do anti-threads.

That make sense. I could place "Appreciation Thread" in the title as well as mention something in the OP about keeping the discussion respectful towards both the actor and the character.

That's not really necessary since all of our threads are appreciation threads. Boards that do anti threads do specify appreciation or anti since there are multiple threads for the same person, but we only have appreciation threads.

Just because his character is a 'baddie' it doesn't mean we can't appreciate him. He is a great character for setting up the development of the other characters. The actor is able to portray all his psychopathic tendencies so we'll, he's not a silly Bond-style villain, he has real depth and ambiguity - we don't know if he would have really allowed a nuclear meltdown, or let Toby die if the team hadn't stopped him! I should probably save this for the new thread...

Very true. You can appreciate how Collins provides a catalyst for the development of the other characters. And the actor definitely does an amazing job of portraying him.

Yes he does. All right, I'll create a thread then. I was going to create it today, but work took longer than needed and then I had puppy duty. So I'll make one sometime this weekend if not tomorrow. Gotta think of some good OP material.

I just saw a short clip of the musical number on the Scorpion Facebook page you guys have to post it here so funny I also found it on YouTube just search Scorpion Musical preview it is a short 53 second clip but I think it is funny I post it if I knew how
