Men and women, lgbt and straight people and people of color identified their common struggle and their common oppressor and came together to say **** NO. And while the relationship between the lgbt community and the LAPD has improved since 1967, as evidenced by the participation of the police department here tonight, with all due respect, and I mean that, there is STILL so much work to be done in the policing and incarceration rates of black and brown people in this city and across this country, right now, in 2017.

And there is inspiration to be gained in how people came together in a common cause and how we MUST DO SO NOW as ICE continues to, as we speak, tear families across this country apart and as we face a newly appointed Chief Law Enforcement officer and Attorney General of the United States, who not so long ago was found to be too racist to sit on a federal court, who on the day of his swearing in made schools less safe for our Trans kids in school and who, on the same day, was given permission to escalate the policing and incarceration of black and brown people due to 3 executive orders signed by Donald Trump, who only referenced the dangers to police officers and not a mention of the hundreds of people who die at the hands of law enforcement every year, 130, already, this year, according to the Washington Post.

So, yes, lets take tonight to remember...
