Exactly. As long as the journey is sweet, I don't mind a beautiful tragic ending. I just want the story to be good (with plenty of nice moments). I'm sure they will be worth it.

I think Francis wouldn't even have objections to marrying Claude to whomever she wants, but Charles is a bit different and kind of looks shady sometimes. So I sort of expect him to oppose the relationship, if they come to have one.

Also drunkalice, it would be Catherine's decision as regent, not Charles.

I don't know about Charles, he seems to have a good relationship with Claude, he asked her for help in the last episode and trusts her somehow I don't feel like he would forbid her something

Yeah but the first thing he said was "You will marry when I say so" and even if he somewhat softened later I wouldn't see a change of mind as something consistent. But I do have a problem with Charles, I instantly didn't trust him and I still don't. I know I'm the only one

Oh no, you're not the only one haha I've seen a lot of tweets about that but I do trust him I don't think he is bad, in the next episode he is trying to save Francis and he could just let him die and become the new King but I don't think he is that kind of guy or at least I hope so

Charles told Claude she would marry who he told her to when he still thought he was going to marry Mary. If the called of they engagement, that means he needs a regent. So Catherine will be in charge of who Claude marries, not Charles. It makes no difference how he feels.

Also, it seems to me that Charles really doesn't want to be king.

But does this allow Catherine to do whatever she wants? I thought he has to agree with most of the things, and does this really mean that if he thinks something is not right that he can't do anything and has to let Catherine decide?

Formally the king has to make the decision, but formally is the key world here.

Actually, no, that is the whole point of a regent. The king is to young to make any decisions. He literally isn't allowed to make a decision without her.
