LOL. Well it's better to get an autograph from Francis rather than Aethelred, she shouldn't complain btw, we never were introduced properly; I'm Mina May I know your name too? (It's easier to refer to names rather than usernames, lol. But I understand if you don't want to say, the choice is yours ) __________________

So because I'm a detective at heart, I decided to check his agency Independent Talent to see who they rep and what projects they got for them. I didn't recognize all names, of course, but of those that I did, that aren't super-known:
Jacob Anderson - Interview with the Vampire (AMC series currently getting strong reviews ahead of its Oct 2 start). He plays Louis, Lestat's boyfreind, a role that Brad Pitt played in the movie. Maxim Baldry - LOTR:ROP (Amazon). Plays Isildur Eve Best - House of the Dragon (HBO). Plays Raenys Targeryan. Millie Brady - Surface (Apple). Her character is expected to become a major player ins eason 2 if renewed. Paddy Considine - House of the Dragon. Plays King Viserys. Denise Gough - Star wars Andor (Disney Plus), Playes Imperial officer. Robert James Collier - Fate:The Winx Saga (Netflix). Plays Specialist master Saul Silva. Jessie Mei Li - Shadow and Bone (Netflix). Plays Alina Starkov. Ewan Mitchell - House of the Dragon (HBO). Will play adult Aemond Targeryan later in this season. Josh O'Connor - The Crown (Netflix). Played Prince Charles in seasons 3 and 4. Next will be seen as Zendaya's love interest in a tennis romance. Sadie Soverall - Fate:The Winx Saga (Netflix). Plays Beatrix. Ty Tennant (David's son) - House of the Dragon (HBO). Plays young Aegon Targeryan (we saw his bum last night ) Freddie Thorp - Fate:The Winx Saga (Netflix). Plays Riven (my favorite character :heart Kristina Tontieri - Warrior Nun (Netflix). Plays Sister Beatrice. Kit Young - Shadow and Bone (Netflix). Plays Jesper. So from what I could see, they got quite a few actors on TLK (Millie, Toby, Ewan Mitchell, Harry Gilby, actress who played Skade, actor who played Father Pyrlig), GOT (Sean Bean, Sophie Turner, Aidan Gillan, Gwendoline Christie, actor who played Davos), HotD (Ewan Mitchell, Eve Best, Paddy Considine, Ty Tennant), cancelled Bloodmoon (Toby, Denise Gough, Miranda Richardson) overall the agency has success with GOT casting, also Winx (Eve Best, Freddie Thorp, Sadie Soverall, Robert James Collier), The Crown (Claire Foy, Gillian Anderson, Josh O'Conor). Kinda explains how Toby got GOT gig but as we know the one that didn't pan out. Now his only project is voicing some video game and not even a big one like Last of Us but some new anime/fantasy. Bummer. here's the link to the agency if you want to browse their talent yourself: https://www.independenttalent.com/ |

Great detective work! That's so interesting. It seems like his agency works with a lot of actors who work in the fantasy and historical drama genres. I suppose there are only so many roles in those shows to go around, but at least we know that the agency has connections with the types of shows that Toby SHOULD be in. That is hopeful.

I did some more decetive work. See, I saw Medici before TLK and Reign and I didn't notice him on that show or remember. It's later when I saw some screncaps that I was like oh that lame character? How the heck did he get wasted in that role? He didn't even look likie himself, not attractive at all, just lame like a kid playing dressup in mom's clothes. So now I decided to investigate how others got their roles because I still can't understand how the heck he edned up with such useless crap when Italians who couldn't speak English or good English got better roles and were dubbed.
So starting with season 1 (he joined in later seasons), Richard Madden was the lead which is understandable. This is his career trajectory leading up to that part: Career breakthrough 2011-2013 Game of THrones, plays important supporting character Rob Stark (he's brave, romantic, just, actiony) Parallel with GOT many shows and TV movies 2015 - Cinderella, plays Prince Kit and thus becomes one of Disney go-to actors) 2016 - Medici, plays lead Cosimo (he's brave, romantic, actiony and ruthless so 80% transferable skills from GOT) Season 2 Daniel Sharman is the lead in Season 2 and 3. Plays Lorenzo - brave, romantic, actiony, leadership. His career trajectory: 2012-2014 Reen Wolf and 2012-2014 The Originals - 2 CW shows! And CW obviously called him back! Haven't seen either but I can imagine his characters were bravey romantic actiony lol. Hey, that's CW! 2017 Fear the Walking Dead - important role, no clue cause I only watched the main TWD. 2018-2019 Medici Now this is interesting. He landed the secondary male lead in Netflix Cursed and I'm telling you if the show was romance between Nimue (the heroine) and his character The Weeping Monk (who is really Sir Lancelot), the show would be renewed. Everyone was shipping him and her even though they barely had scenes together in Season 1. Point being, that CW resume led to Netflix deal. Second largest role, Bradley James as his brother. His career trajectory: Breakthrough 2008-2012 Merlin, plays Arthur future king (his character is brave, romantic , actiony) 2015-2016 is a lead on IZombie and Damien 2018 Medici, his character is brave, romantic, actoony so 100% skill transfer from Merlin Now the most important one, Charlie Vickers. He was in the same season with Toby, Season 2 and 3, but I instantly rememberd him because he had an appealing role and is cute af. He played the husband of Lorenzo's sister and that romance was historically Shakespeare's inspiration for Romeo and Juliet. Only historical couple had a happy ending. They got married despite family feud and were only exiled to comfy life in Venice after his brother and father killed the younger Medici brother (Bradley James). Since Charlie bro wasn't the part of the conspiracy he was spared but he and wife had to leave Florence. So anyway, I checked his filmography and get this - that wa shis debut role! So in 2018, he grabbed a memorable part as his first role and then was cast in LOTR:ROP pretty much with only that on his resume. Now he's playing the best character Hlabrand who is likely Sauron in disguise. Well done! My point is, how the heck did Toby end up with the crappiest role on the whole show, and one that makes him look completely forgettable, off Reign? Seriously, it doesn't make any sense. he was on reuign 2013-2015, did TLK 2017 - 2020 and picked up Medici gig in 2019 (according to IMDB only Season 3 and I really can't remember lol). So it makes zero sense trajectory-wise that he would be given this character while some dubbed Italian edned up with a much juicier role as Charlie's evil brother who killed Bradley James. I get it that he was there only for 1 season so those other roles were booked but still why the heck did they even cast him in such a role? why didn't they just dub another Italian? Toby couldn't possibly be cheaper than that, right? So yeah, I'm beyind confused and as we saw in Daniel Sharman case, CW can be an asset or at least not a hinderance. So how the heck Toby's career got mismanaged so badly? |

Again, great research. Yeah, I don't have any answers. I remember being so excited when I learned that Toby was going to be on Medici, because I enjoyed the show and loved the actors involved (Richard Madden and Daniel Sherman are both incredibly dreamy. ) But sadly, I was disappointed with his role. Like you said, it was forgettable and insignificant. Toby obviously deserved a better opportunity. Was this role better than nothing? I don't know.

I get that comparing one's career management to other actors career management can be annoying. But I think it's necessary. Actors have to take stock of their careers. After having Reign on his resume, he should have gotten at least 1-2 leading roles where he's romantic and actiony. He should have been called back by CW. He should have been on Interview with the Vampire as Louis or Lestat instead of on final season of ADOW. he shouldn't have lost his connection to movies after getting acclaim for that internet stalker movie whose title is hard to type. I don't even understand why he stopped making movies. Or theater. he was acclaimed as a teenager. I know he talked about a movie where he was playing a pianist and how hard it was for him to learn to play piano. And I thought, that's not good. It was in 2021 based on the date of the video. I guess his movie fell through cause it isn't listed on IMDB nor there is any offical casting announcement. I thought Chivalry was that but when I clicked on it it didn't match at all. It's really weird because it shouldn't have gone this way but somehow did. Oh well. Not our problem. Just fun to investigate. |

Right, it's not our problem (or our business, really). But I understand why you're curious. We're all rooting for Toby to succeed. I'm sure there are lots of factors we don't even know about. Perhaps there are issues with Toby's family or personal life that have affected his professional choices. Maybe there were some bad experiences that affected his attitude and self-confidence. And it's possible that his talent agency really hasn't been working that well on his behalf. Who knows. All we can do is hope for the best for him. As we've said, Toby is still young and there is plenty of time. As long as he's happy and fulfilled.

Agreed, who knows what's going on in his private life that may be affecting his motivations, attitude, confidence. At the end of the day, it's really up to you. I can clean my room any moment but if I don't want to than it won't be clean until I decide. So I guess it's the same here. He decides what auditons to attend and what to pass on, what offers to take, whether to stay with the same agency or change, etc. I'd change tbh. They have so many clients and many in his age group give or take have a leg up on him cause they booked hit shows and movies. So they'll be agency's priority to promote to studios. Turnover is important. You have to get new jobs quickly and preferably upgrades from what came before (for example, supporting actor to lead, or indie movie to studio movie, or joined a show in the last season to full order show start to finish, etc). That is his main problem. His career went in a right direction from his early teens to early 20s. He was on teen show and auteur movie in early teens, than headlined a TV show, stage production and was co-lead in an indie movie in his late teens and early 20s. That was all in UK. Then at 21 he landed a male lead on American show (Reign). So you can see career going upwards. And then it just crashed. He should have been busy on all 3 fronts (TV movies stage) in 2 countries (UK and US). He should have found a big opportunity soon after Bloodmoon was cancelled (quite a few of his cast members did including an actress from his agency). You just know by the number of conventions he does that there's no secret project at works. There's nothing. Oh well.

I just hope Toby perseveres and doesn't give up. I hope he keeps on auditioning and going after great roles, if that is the career he truly wants. I'm sure he can turn the trajectory around. He has the talent. He must know that his fans will follow and support him wherever he goes.
One of his voice over roles. __________________

HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY, TOBY!!!
Sorry I missed it. I wasn't on social media much yesterday. I hope he has an amazing year. Apparently I also missed Toby joining Dead Poets Live? Looks cool. And Chivalry. Finally, Toby must have been at the premiere of Pinball: The Man Who Saved The Game at the Hamptons Film Festival. Maybe some of his friends are involved because he's not on the cast list. This pic is fantastic. __________________
