Now that I've finally got my streaming services up and running, I need to watch Monk from the beginning.

Watched the first 2 episodes. I like that Monk is able to do things that are distasteful in order to protect or save Sharona. I'm interested to see if that is restricted to people he knows and cares about - or can he get past his phobias for any human being in extreme circumstances.

I've come to the preliminary conclusion that it depends on the degree of distastefulness. For Sharon, he'll plunge his hand into sewer water. For the general good, he'll pretend to enjoy himself at an amusement park.

For his other assistant she could pretty much talk him into any thing and he keeps saying I'm losing her

I think to some extent Lisbon may understand Jane's loss better than most people. She didn't lose a spouse or child, but she lost both parents at an early age. I think for a young person, that must have given her a similar feeling of being very much alone in the world - like she lost her entire family, even if she still had her brothers.
