And he didn't mind who he used - or how he used them - to do it.
Killing Lorelei was a stroke of evil brilliance. Right or wrong, Jane must have felt terrible guilt about that. He was so obsessed with the idea that Red John would kill people he got close to - and Lorelei's murder drove that home. __________________

I sort of think that if Red John had not killed her, Lorelei might have turned on him - and worked to help Jane find him.

Maybe if she had started cooperating with the FBI, she could have helped them catch Red John. But she'd probably have to go into Witness Protection since he had a network of helpers.
