This is so true though. Women in patriarchal societies aren't allowed to be angry. It is seen as a moral failing or as a mental deficiency for girls to be angry. This is why I'm glad GoT let the female characters experience anger and rage and vengeance due to the injustice and violence they face, even if that violence is the normalized oppression of their gender. Women to this day are expected to be kind and compassionate, and not angry. It's why our feelings are constantly dismissed, especially when it comes to anger and frustration. Anyway, I love my angry girls and women in fiction. It's extremely relatable to me and I love to see it. i just wished D&D and yes also GRRM didn't mess everything up in the end. I thought they were different.

Daenerys experiences reflect the experiences of many women. She reminds me of myself, of my cousins, of my half siblings, fighting to survive the abuse our patriarchal family members put us through. She's exiled from her home through no fault of her own. She's trying to find a home and in the meantime, she's building bonds of love with her people. Daenerys is many things, but a villain isn't one of them. When she rains fire and blood on the slavers, I'll be right there cheering her on.

I agree very much with you guys. Dany was sexually abused, sold as a sex slave in an extremely sexist world, and fought her way up to power. It rubs me the wrong way when people say "she was always a tyrant/crazy", because the examples people give are often things male characters have done too. Dany learned to stand up for herself, and she definitely has faced challenges along the way.

It disgusts me that people say she is crazy for not crying to save her abusive brother who had literally threatened her and her baby's lives. She was more compassionate than I would have been, I wouldn't have named a dragon in honour of the better person he used to be.

And as we see in HOTD, 50% of Targaryens are not mad.
