And at least, at the end, Shinwell is getting something out of it.

I know
She was suspicious from the start, I don't know how Sherlock and Joan didn't suspect her, especially after they found out that the victim was on the database where she worked. I know he used to work there too but it still should have made them look at her twice.

That's the flaw with 1hr procedural shows, the arc always follows a particular template so that it is usually quite easy to work out who the culprit is, but yet we have to believe that it takes the detectives the whole episode to figure it out

Other than that, it was an interesting episode and even if you sort of knew it was her it was still suspenseful because we didn't know if they would get to the girl in time or not.

It was funny to see the parallels between Joan training Shinwell and Sherlock training Joan, although she is definitely a kinder and more understanding teacher than he was

I agree, in one hour you cant confuse us enough; I mean how many people can you meet until we're completely lost!? I think whne it comes to Elementary it is not the culprit who is important but the way they track him? That's the feeling I get anyway.

And Sherlock/Joan Joan/Shinwell parallel gives me life !

yeah we don't really care after all! It's the interactions between the core cast we crave! But I enjoy being surprised by a case every now and then.
