Ally McBeal Appreciation #18 When Ally Met Larry
|
Thanks for the new thread! I love the picture you posted, and the thread title is cute. :)
|
Brilliant title..I  it!
Cute pic! I can't wait for Ally to start coming out on dvd. I know over here in the UK we have all the dvds out but I like how the region 1 boxsets are more compact and pretty. Theres season 1 on dvd right? |
 Thanks for the new thread Bency, and the picture is just the cutest thing!
|
I miss Ally Mcbeal being on. I just have to keep watching tapes.
|
Only 6 eps from season are on DVD in the USA. Sucks.
|
I love the thread title and picture, too cute! I should rent the DVDs. I didn't watch Ally in the beginning, I think I would like the later ones better.

I agree. Fox has said that the music is a problem. I hope they don't change all the music when they eventually release it. :( That would suck.

If they had a music problem, how come they released 2 or 3 soundtracks with no problem? |
At the time, they probably only cleared the music rights for the soundtracks and not DVD releases. Ally started before the big TV-on-DVD craze, so I'm sure when they made music clearances, they didn't even consider that Ally might one day be on DVD.

I'd love to buy the region 2, but right now I don't have a DVD player that would play them.

I used to be a -huge- Ally McBeal fan. It was likely my first real "fandom" -- in the sense that I went out looking for communitys, fan fic, etc.
It was the character of Larry Paul that really got me into it. When Robert Downey Jr. left the show for the first time and left the fans hanging as to whether or not he'd be back, I HAD to find out more. So I went and read fanfic about it. Man. To this day that pairing oozes chemistry for me. Though... I could have lived without Season 5. Season 5 was not so good... and it was good that the show ended when it did, and how it did. |
I agree it was good it ended when it did, but I didn't like the ending.
|
|
Thanks for the pic Kelly.
|
Well.. ideally, the show would have been best ending with the return of RDJr, but that was impossible. I guess another plausable ending could have been Ally going off to Michigan to be with Larry... but I suppose that would have taken away from the original premise of the show a bit -- a single gal lookin' for love in all the wrong places.. :)
I do like how Ghost Billy made an appearance... and also the return of Renee and Georgia -- both of whom disappeared sort of without a trace, ala classic David E. Kelley... |
Yeah, I know it wasn't possible, but I still think DEK could have made a better ending.
It was nice seeing old characters back although it seemed strange especially since Ally never mentioned Renee all of season 5. |
I'm glad you like the title, I chose it because we left the previous thread with talking about Ally and Larry and I like the title of Meg Ryan's movie When Harry Met Sally... :)
Cute pic, groovyk1! I'm sure the DVDs will be released since the Ally show is very popular. But... when? :sigh: |
I'm also sure they'll be released eventually, but I dread all the music changes they'll probably make.
|
I'm glad you like the pic. Call me Kelly :)
Hopefully one day we'll get the dvd's on region 1, but in this lifetime???? who knows :( I'm kidding, we'll get them but I too am dreading the music changes. |

Anyway I'm posting these lyrics because I think they fit Ally and Larry's relantionship well. Radford- How does it feel Feelings I need, they don’t matter You’re just a breath away, from me Seeing we play, doesn’t change things Still the crime scene, we made I’ve got angels crashing over my head They’re crying for the things you’ve said So, how does it feel, to feel? So, how does it feel, to feel? City we breathe, isn’t changing We’re just a step away, from home. Laughter we need, doesn’t matter If you don’t find yourself, leading your own I’ve got angels crashing over my head They’re crying for the things you’ve said So how does it feel, to feel? How does it feel, to feel? Cause I don’t wanna come down I know it’s probably to late To fade... don't you want to give in? This time it's ok To Feel… To Feel… To Feel… To Feel… Na na na na na na na na na na na na na To Feel… To Feel… I’ve got angels crashing over my head They keep crying for the things you’ve said... Now that you’re gone |
I don't think I ever heard Calista or Robert talk about the ending, but Robert often said how much he liked the show.
Calista did say in an interview that Ally and Larry were going to get married. She said she read the script, and it was great. Portia talked about the ending, and how she felt the fans who were loyal to the show deserved a better ending. |

I can try but I'm not sure if I can remember names. But you're my "Josh Hartnett and Keanu Reeves buddy", so I think I will call you Kelly from now on. ;) Quote:
