Well I love Buck & Abby's relationship for several reasons, one I tend to have a soft spot for romance between older women and younger men, there's not enough depiction of these sorts of relationships in movies & TV shows, even though older women & younger men couples are becoming more & more common in real-life nowadays. And secondly, I love how Buck & Abby's relationship developed, they initially started out as good friends talking on the phone, but the relationship eventually grew deeper. I love how Abby changed Buck, at the start of the show Buck was this typical playboy who constantly fooled around with different girls, he was also much more reckless and immature. But ever since he started a relationship with Abby, he has really matured, he is not the same reckless playboy as he was before, and he became a monogamous man who is loyal to just one woman, he became a more serious & responsible person, I think Abby really centered him, dating a much older and wiser woman really made him change his attitude and outlook on life. He changed from an irresponsible & reckless playboy into a more mature & responsible loyal man mainly because of his relationship with Abby.

I still haven't given up hope that Abby will come back, they still mention her and Buck is still living in her apartment, they are clearly still leaving the door open for the possibility of Abby returning in the future.

I'm not saying that I don't go for older women/younger men relationships I don't have a problem with them, but in this case it's different to me and I just don't like them together never have. For me personally it depends on the people to know if I'm going to like them or not or even ship them together in terms of older women/younger men and vise versa.

I also not saying that no one else can't love them/like/ship them, but I just feel they were shoved down others throats that don't/didn't like them together so that's another reason I've never liked them. I don't like those types of relationships where it's shoved down the audiences throats like that. Their relationship to me just went way too fast, but that's just my opinion.

LindaL100 10-17-2018 08:07 PM

I don't necessarily think their relationship was "shoved down our throats", many people actually love Buck & Abby's relationship, which is why so many people are disappointed that she's gone and want her to come back so she can reunite with Buck. But I can understand why some people who don't like their relationship feel that this couple was "shoved down their throats", however the couple seem to have many supporters on social media.

I don't necessarily think their relationship was rushed per se, it might seem like it was rushed because season 1 was so short, but who knows how long time had passed, season 1 could've taken place in a period of many months, Buck & Abby could've been friends for months before they started dating, and they could've been dating for a while by the time S1 ended, we don't know for sure. But I think they are such a good couple and very compatible together so I don't feel their relationship was "rushed", I think they really complement each other, Abby really matured Buck and helped to center him, while Buck I feel brought out a more outgoing side of Abby, they both have been a positive influence in each other's lives.

But you are entitled to your own opinions of course.

^well we'll have to agree to disagree on Abby/Buck & their relationship.

Yeah and seriously I don't get the appeal of the pairing Abby/Buck at all or Connie Britton/ Abby; and a lot of people are still so mad that Connie left, but they can't even remember or get that it was her decision to leave not the networks or anyone else's and she only intended to be on the show for a year and it was favor to RM as well and I just read that Connie wasn't even the original person that was supposed on the show another person a lady was, but she backed out at the last minute apparently. Abby was a boring character to me really. I actually like Maddie because she's doing more then Connie's character ever did at least so far & I think she's more interesting as well.

Really? Why people mad at her for? I mean, she can do more than just one project.. I mean, I'm sure that the writers promise her w/ something than just date Buck... But honestly, she didn't do much in S1..

Well they aren't mad at her per say I just said they are just mad in general that she's left you know and it's on instagram/facebook and all that. Yes she definitely didn't do much at all that's why I never found her an interesting character.

Same. I went into it expecting to like the pairing but I just found myself extremely bored by them at best, and annoyed at worse because of her repeated calling him while he was working as if distracting him couldn't literally kill someone. Even with that annoyance I probably could have liked them if there was any depth, but there wasn't, imo.

Abby wasn't always the one calling him, sometimes Buck was the one who called Abby while she was at work, they both called each other, that's how their relationship started and continued until she left. And it never really seemed to bother either of them when they called each other at work, they always enjoyed their conversations together over the phone, and every time Buck was in a bad mood, talking to Abby on the phone always cheered him up, so how could that be a bad thing?

And I totally disagree with you about their relationship "lacking depth", sure it might've seemed like their relationship was abit "rushed" because as I mentioned before, season 1 was very short, but when their relationship literally changed Buck for the better and turned him into a much more mature and responsible man, that's far from "lacking in depth" IMO. If you think about it more, out of all the couples on the show so far, Buck & Abby's relationship had the most development in the whole show.

In S1 Abby mostly did her job as a 911 operator and looking after her mother for many years.

Same here and I hate how he got mad that she was leaving.. I was like boy, she just lost her mother who she been taking care for years and never able to focus on herself, so about time to do something about herself before she can able to settle down w/ him..
He was upset she wanted to leave but overall, I think he was pretty supportive of her desire to leave. And of her taking care of her mother. And pretty much everything she was going through.

Right. I loved them but they were both a little ridiculous with those conversations at work.

I don't think it was rushed either, especially now that we know that Connie was only going to be there for a season. It was part of a clearly defined character arc for Abby but especially Buck. I'd argue there was more buildup to Buck and Abby than there was for Bobby and Athena who basically went from sharing a few professional scenes here and there to going on a date to the six month time jump where they're together. (And I love Bobby and Athena too so it's not a qualitative judgment but that happened pretty fast.)

Yeah but the thing about Bobby and Athena though is Athena was married all through season 1 except for those last few episodes so her & Bobby didn't have time to be in a relationship at all prior to that. So how they have a relationship if she was still married? they really couldn't And actually it was more like a 4 month time jump according to what was mentioned by I believe Athena. I think they had the built up it just happened off screen during those few months.

LindaL100 10-19-2018 01:01 AM

Athena is still married to her husband, they are not legally divorced yet, it's just that now their marriage has become more open, they both are dating other people. There really wasn't much of a build up between Bob & Athena...it was like one day they were just acquaintances, they connected & had a conversation during a case and then suddenly they went on a date together, and it all happened in the last episode of S1. Even with the time jump, we still didn't get to see the progression of Bobby & Athena's relationship, it sort of just happened quite suddenly for them. Don't get me wrong I like Bobby & Athena together, but if any couple were rushed in this show then it would be Bobby & Athena, not Buck & Abby.

In comparison there was much more build up and development for Abby & Buck's relationship in season 1, ever since the series pilot they had already started to establish that connection & relationship between Buck & Abby, and their relationship steadily progressed and deepened even more with each ep, so when they started dating each other it was no surprise. The transition of their relationship from friends to couple was much more consistent and it started from day 1.

80s90sIsTheBest 10-19-2018 03:37 AM

^well whatever the case is I still won't ever ship Abby & Buck over Bobby & Athena. I'm not saying that people shouldn't or can't. I appreciate the conversations though as this thread is really lacking those lately so it's nice to be able to talk civil about ships because usually they turn into shipping wars.
