I'm assuming it happened off screen too but I thought we were speaking narratively. And narratively, it just happened. In real life, neither time frame was rushed. Both started with flirting/dating and then progressed from there.
And I would never argue that anyone should. The couples aren't in competition with one another---thankfully. Bobby went towards Athena (which is the pairing I preferred even before it happened) rather than the hinted at triangle between Buck, Bobby and Abby.

even though in terms of storytelling both relationships were not rushed, but the reason why I said that Bobby & Athena's relationship was rushed because on-screen it SEEMED like it was, I mean for most of season 1 they were just portrayed as acquaintances or friends but then in the last episode they bonded over a case and suddenly they went on a date together, it all happened very quickly and suddenly all in just that last episode alone, thus the relationship just seemed & felt rushed to me. I'm sure their relationship progressed more off-screen between the end of S1 and the start of S2, but the problem is that we didn't get to see that progression in their relationship on-screen, so on-screen their relationship still feels a bit rushed to me. I actually supported the Bobby & Athena relationship from the beginning, so it annoyed me that it took them so long to get close in S1, we had to wait till the very end of S1 to see that relationship actually starting. I would've much preferred if the writers had developed Bobby & Athena's relationship from the beginning, like they did with Buck & Abby's relationship...but instead, the writers spent several episodes focusing on Athena's short-lived brief fling with that toyboy she met at a bar, I think that fling she had with that guy was a complete waste of Athena's time and totally unnecessary. Instead of giving Athena a rebound fling with some random guy she met at a bar, the writers should've spent those several episodes exploring Athena's relationship with Bobby, they should've given this couple a lot more screentime together, showing them bonding and growing closer in S1. The writers and producers had numerous opportunities to explore the Bobby & Athena's relationship much sooner in S1, but they wasted those opportunities on a meaningless and pointless fling for Athena, then waited until the very end in the S1 finale to finally focus on establishing Bobby & Athena's relationship. Overall I think Bobby & Athena's relationship was poorly handled & developed, it all seemed rushed because there was very little focus and development on their relationship in S1 and it all happened too suddenly on-screen in the last ep.
The difference with Buck & Abby's relationship is that unlike Bobby & Athena, we actually got to see Buck & Abby's relationship develop and progress on-screen from the very beginning, the writers had established that connection between Buck & Abby in the very first episode, so they had already planted that seed for Buck & Abby's relationship from day 1. And because we the viewers were able to watch Buck & Abby's relationship steadily progress and grow closer on-screen throughout S1, I think their relationship was much better written because the progression and development of their relationship was written and portrayed much more consistently on-screen compared to Bobby & Athena.
And I am glad that the writers did not go down that love triangle route between Buck, Abby and Bobby, because I have supported both the Buck & Abby and Bobby & Athena couples since the very beginning, I would've been so annoyed if they had written a love triangle. And honestly I think a love triangle would've been so unnecessary and it would've only just created pointless drama.
