At long last, we know who is voicing Thanos in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Oscar-nominated actor Josh Brolin will voice the Mad Titan, who will appear on screen for the first time since the post-credits tease in “The Avengers.”
Outside of the fact that Brolin is playing Thanos, we don’t know too much else about his appearance in “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
As a quick recap in light of the Josh Brolin news, here’s everything we know about Thanos in “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
He will be motion-captured.
This was a first clue about what Thanos would physically look like in “Guardians.” Despite being brought to live with practical effects in “The Avengers,” he’s making the leap to full CGI.
He’s pulling the strings above Ronan and Nebula.
James Gunn said on numerous occasions that the dynamic duo played by Lee Pace and Karen Gillan are the main villains and that purple guy is more behind the scenes. Sounds like Marvel could be saving Thanos for something in the future. Hmmm.
He trained Gamora, Nebula and Korath.
In the comic book prelude written by originators of the modern Guardians team, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, it’s revealed that Gamora, Nebula and Korath were trained by Thanos to be lethal warriors.
He has a rocket throne.
The nerdiest detail in the Bloomberg Businessweek profile of Kevin Feige was a thinly veiled spoiler from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” edit bay. In one scene, an unnamed villain sits on a throne floating in space. Wonder who that might be.
He’s after the Infinity Stones.
Anyone who knows Thanos from the comics understands that, in addition to courting Death, this is just what he does. With the reveal that the Tesseract was an Infinity Stone and that another will be at the center of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” it’s a safe bet to assume that Thanos is trying to collect the gems.
“Guardians of the Galaxy” opens in theaters on August 1.
