So, why did TWS retcon what happened in TFA with Steve and Bucky's background?

Which part? The part with how Bucky fell off the train and got picked up by Zola?

No. In the prelude comics that tied in with TFA before the movie came out, it was mentioned that Steve's father died as a war hero when he was a baby? (he was pretty young anyway) and his mom died of pnemonia when he was around 6 and he was sent to an orphanage where he met Bucky after Bucky saved him from some bullies. But in TWS, they mentioned that his dad was an alcoholic and alluded that he was abusive to Steve and his mom. And his mom died when he was adult, before he joined the SSR and became Captain America. Bucky mentioned his family too. This confuzzles me. They could have had Bucky say the 'end of the line' line without retconning anything.

I didn't know that.

It happens a lot, though. Different ages for the vampires in Buffy and they couldn't even keep the number of decks on the Enterprise consistent within the same film.
