Well, if they did it like the comics, you'd have gotten your wish.

Infinity Gauntlet without Adam Warlock is what prevents it from being big. I've said this before, doing Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet storyline without Adam Warlock is like doing Darkseid and the Apokolips storyline without Superman. You can't get the "big, epic climax" without the hero of the story even being in the movie.

Adam Warlock taking the Gauntlet from Thanos, becoming a supreme being, turning Thanos into a stone statue, and then surrendering the Gauntlet and destroying the Infinity... gems/stones

is what would've made the story epic. Without Adam Warlock, it's just not good enough.
