I don't know. I thought they were perfect for one another in S1 until Mary kiboshes the proposal. Now that we've seen Edith mature throughout the Great War in S2, I wonder if Sir Anthony is too provincial for her now. After all, Granny thinks that Edith would be nothing but a nursemaid if she married Sir Anthony.

I love that green dress that Edith is wearing in the pics in the opening post -- and I love that scene, too. Mary's all like, "Pssh, I'm blowing you off again, old man," and Sir Anthony's like, "Actually, I'm blowing you off! I'm here to see Edith! PSYCH!" It's really lovely to see Edith have that small moment of triumph over Mary.

Add me to the list, please. I have a soft spot for this pairing. I hope they can work things out in S3. Hey, Jane and Rochester made it work, didn't they? And he was missing a hand!

I really liked what Edith said in that CS EP . I liked that I saw her showing some backbone and not just accepting what he says blindly. Her attitude was like "I am here to get things straight and I know we are both changed, why can't we be back together like before the war?"
Glad that this thread has been made I have a soft spot for them.

In truth, I wished that Edith could find someone close to her age but we are talking here 1919 ight at the end of the Great War when the majority of 'suitable' men have being killed or completely destroyed (eg, psychologically, physically, emotionally,etc) while I recognise that Sir Anthony may not be the same man, I don't think he is too changed and I'm sure that if he were to marry Edith she could help him to find happiness together with her love, care and patience. Besides both of them have common interests and they both find each other interesting (at least that was the impression I got from season 1)
I think it is silly to complain the age gap here because back then it was quite common and there is also Anna+Bates

I agree with this. Back then, most men are probably out fighting the war and Sir Anthony is definitely one of those gentlemen out there. He's really nice and Edith lights up when he's around. We're left with many unanswered issues between them so I hope s3 will answer that.
