Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, (born 5 May 1988), is a Grammy Award-Winning English singer-songwriter from Enfield, North London. Her debut album, 19, was released in January 2008 and entered the UK album chart at #1. The album has since received four-times Platinum certification in the UK and has sold 5,500,000 copies worldwide. Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born on May 5th, 1988 in Tottenham, North London, England. Her parents are Penny Adkins, an English teenager, and Mark Evans, a Welshman. When she was two her father walked out on them, and would later have a son, Cameron Evans. Adele began singing at four years old, and one of her earliest influences was the Spice Girls who she says "made me what I am today." As she grew older Aaliyah, Destiny's Child, Mary J. Blige, P!nk, Etta James, and Ella Fitzgerald were all inspirations and musical passions for Adele. Adele graduated from the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon in May 2006 and credits the school with nurturing her talent even though at the time she was more interested in going into A&R and hoped to launch other people's careers. Four months after graduation, she published two songs on the fourth issue of the online arts publication PlatformsMagazine.com, and had recorded a three-song demo for a class project which a friend posted on MySpace where it became very successful. This led to a phone call from music label XL Recordings and by September 2006 she had signed on to that label. In 2012 Adele released the song ''Skyfall'', which was the theme song for the twenty-third James Bond film. Skyfall was co-written with producer Paul Epworth and was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. It was #2 on the UK Singles Chart and entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #8. Skyfall has sold over two million copies worldwide. In 2013 Adele received both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for Skyfall. She also performed the song at the 85th Academy Awards.
