Indeed. Rogers is also a father trying to reunite with his child, and that is definitely something Rumple can relate to

Plus Rogers wants to help him in his quest to reunite with Belle. I think that discussion in episode 9 was what really melted the ice between them.

When you said episode 9 I couldn't remember which conversation you were talking about so I looked at it again, and yes, he does tell Rogers he's trying to reunite with Belle, and by opening up, Rogers melts towards him.

It was a turning point for them, as they were butting heads before that.
