I think no matter what the triangle will happen and looking back at season 1, it technically always was there. Emma had the car and the necklace with her so there was always that person in the silence and in the shadows.
Emma had the necklace when she made out with Graham so in a way Neal has always been there with her. That's why the triangle doesn't bother me. If Neal meant nothing Emma could've easily gotten rid of the car or the necklace but she never has  __________________
