The cup is very significant. Maybe Belle will see it and realize that Rumple has always been a man hiding behind walls, and it took her awhile to bring the them down. All of them down.
That he's always been a good man, cursed and the cup will remind her that not all is lost. And that when he starts to fight for her, that he cup, the gauntlet ,etc will lead them back together.

I understand Shinto tradition has it that an object that is the focus of intense feelings--positive or negative--can come alive or gain a soul.* I kind of like the idea of Chip coming to life and turning into a little boy whose primary purpose in life is bringing Rumple and Belle back together.

Well that good thing is we have great things on tumblr to gt us through the hiatus.

I really hope they will be working in repairing their love and marriage by the end of the season

I'm adding this from the Rumple thread..

I think another reason Rumple wants to be free of the dagger is immortality. He's immortal, he already witnessed his son die, he doesn't want to watch Belle grow old and die.

It would have been a lovely thing if he explained to her that he wanted to be rid of it so he and her could share this life together. That he found what he wanted, her.
NOt the power or immortality that goes with being the Dark One.

I do wonder though if Belle is a little bit quizzical about the immortality thing as being Lacey she didn't mind at all if she was immortal too, so maybe somewhere in the back of Belle's mind, she is sort of thinking about it...
