I was equally as pessimistic about New Girl, given the grand tradition of disappointing pilots. I was wrong. New Girl was very entertaining and very well-written. Damon Wayans, Jr.? My new favorite sitcom star. Alas, he’ll only be in one episode of the Fox series, since he’s committed to ABC’s Happy Endings (which, BTW, is a kneeslapper). Deschanel stars as Jess, that chick from your drama class in high school that turned every third sentence into a song. And yet, she’s as cute as a button and very likable. She comes home (in nothing but a trench coat) to surprise her live-in boyfriend, who has been sleeping with someone else. Obvious problem notwithstanding, Jess is the one who has to find a new place to live. Bless her heart, for Jess trolls Craigslist for the first available “Roommates Seeking Roommate” listing.
