New York City really needs no introduction. All clich'aside, New York isn't just an entrapaneur candy land or a musician's promoting venue, but for many, it's a play ground; and for some, it's a home. With virtually twelve million people taking claim to the city's citizenship, New York isn't just America’s most cluttered city, but one of the world’s. Everything is limitless. Tall sky scrapers serve to epitomize a dreamer’s boundless inspiration. Underground coffee clubs are accessed threw lower city ports. Tourists are the carnies of a big city circus. Bohemian artists find safe havens in the lackluster publicly run parks. Skinheads and gang bangers lay tucked away in the innermost run down sanctums of the city. Subways aren’t just an environmentally conscious means of transportation; their convenient. This list could go on and on and still never be complete, but what else can you expect from one of the world’s most renown cities?

New York never sleeps, and its patrons constantly reinvent new ways to pass the time.

The Game

The further you journey through your high school experience, the more cliche's you discover are not just false tall tells told to scare incoming freshmen. Perhaps the biggest cliche of them all is the stereotypical "player." The thing is, with many cliche there's always a hint of truth behind them, and those quick to just write them off as stupid wive’s tales not worthy of the attention devoted to them would be ignorant when it comes to matters of the heart.

New York Public High School all on its own is nothing special. Big? Sure. But different in context from any other American school in the country? Hardly.

The names of those handful who walk the hallways are not easily distinguished either. Not everyone considers themselves a "player", but the traits are universal. Some guys pump and dump quicker than a new car fills up on gas while others carelessly string their conquests along with little thought. Some boast proudly and make bets in regards to the more challenging of targets while others are more detached and less picky. Some wear their title proudly while others are oblivious to it. The methods vary, but the end result is always the same. Fragile hearts shattered to pieces - unsuspecting victims humiliated in their own attempts to turn a "player" around for the better.

The process is doomed to repeat and collapse in on itself, and one could argue that the victims play willingly. High stake games are a rush and a Player’s heart is the Royal Flush of all plays. The line between the player and the playee has grown thin. Not ever girl who dances with the devil, dances ignorantly, but just the same, no one is ever entirely safe. This, perhaps, is what makes the game such a drug. It’s both addicting and destructive; all-consuming and corruptive.

The end is simple.

In a high stakes game that everyone wants in on, the player who gathers the most hearts is the winner. So, it’s time to ask yourself a question.

I felt him lay down on the hood and I closed my eyes for a moment when I heard him speak. I turned to my side, so I was facing him and I wanted to say so many things but I kept silent. I mean what was I meant to say? ‘Oh I’m sorry I was jealous because I’m in love with you.’ So I was hoping my eyes were transparent enough for him to look inside me and speak the words I couldn’t. My breath was steady as I preoccupied myself by studying ever feature of his face, my eyes lingering on his lips before my eyes returned to meet his.

I looked at Indiana, waiting for a reply. After awhile, I realized I wasn't going to get one. Then I realized, maybe I was getting one, it just wasn't verbal. I studied her face, and the expression in her eyes, trying to read it. I'd never thought that Indiana was hard to read, she always seemed like an open book. But right now, I wasn't sure what she was thinking. I don't think it was because she was hard to read, either. I think it was because I was feeling insecure. I didn't want to assume the wrong thing and then blow it big time. But the way she was looking at me... it said a whole lot, on so many different levels. I just hoped that she got the same message from me, then we'd be on the same page... in our open book.

"Indiana, um, I..." I paused, searching for the words, the right words to say what it was I needed and wanted to say. But wasn't this whole moment revolving around what we weren't saying? There was a better way to convey what I wanted her to know, without having to waste my breathe on trite phrases I'd end up stealing from Jerry Mcguire. I stared at her determinedly, and held my breath as I leaned in, cupping her face in my hands and brushing my lips slightly against hers. Now I was waiting for a response, and when I got it, I would know right away if it was what I was looking for.

He was about to speak and I felt my breath get caught in my throat. I watched him closely as his face moved slowly and his lips finally captured mine. My eyes sprung open in shock, he had known exactly what I was thinking. Feeling my eyes finally flutter closed, moving closer to him I felt our bodies mound into each other and I finally returned his kiss. At first it was slow as our lips slowly introduced themselves to each other, his lower lip caught mine and my upper lip caught his. The kisses where innocent and soft, but that changed after a few moments. The kisses grew larger and longer, both gasping for air, but not wanting to part. I could feel my head spin from lack of oxygen, but I wasn’t going to let go, but lack of breath caused me to part from him. My nose rubbed against his as I rested my head against his. “I think we just took a big step in our friendship.” I smiled and bit my lip before kissing him again.

If I were to go back to the beginning of the school year, at that Halloween party, I would never have thought I'd become best friends with this girl, and I would never see myself here, kissing her on top of the hood of my car. But right now, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. The first few kisses were innocent and gentle, slowly yet surely progressing into a more deep and meaningful meeting of lips, which said everything that needed to be said without really saying anything at all. I slid both arms around her waist, holding her against me as I kissed her with expertise, denying myself any oxygen until I wasn't able to take it anymore and we pulled away. My hands still lingered at her hips as we leaned against each other. "Yeah." I said in agreement, exhaling deeply. "I'd say that we did." I smiled up at her. "Maybe it's time to extend this friendship into a relationship."

Letty - Levi took a long drink and gave Parker back the flask and told Parker he was surprised that he knew about him and Laken, then asked Parker why he was out there. Tenli agreed to try the dancing thing again and got some more confidence and repositioned herself more comfortably.

I smiled as I placed my hands on top of his arm I couldn’t believe how good this felt. When Trey and I kissed, it felt right and I never saw myself being girly when I finally liked a guy, but at the moment you could colour me pink. My leg lazily was dragged on top of his and our bodies seemed to be made to fit. Our chests pressing up against each other and our forehead were together as our breathing became in sync. “I agree with you.” My hand went to his cheek. “This relationship was long overdue.” I smiled. “If I had to waste another lollypop trying to get your attention, I think I would have gone poor or crazy. I guess you saved me the trouble.” I kissed him softly. “I think we should get back inside, just in case you get crowned.”

"Yeah, and I saved myself the pain of getting hit by another lollipop." I told her teasingly, leaning in for another soft kiss and wrapping my arms around her tighter. "We don't have to go inside." I said to her, looking at her pointedly. "I'm not going to win, and having you is much better than having some dumb title." I told her earnestly. "We could stay out here, or... in there." I nodded to the interior of my car with a playful grin, leaning forward and kissing her quickly again, then planting soft butterfly kisses from the side of her cheek down to her neck. "It could be fun." I whispered into her ear.

Closing my eyes as he planted kisses along my neck, I could feel myself weakening until something he said woke me right up. The interior of his car? The backseat? Me? And it took me about two seconds to snap out of the mood and push him off the hood of the car so he was on the dirt floor. “Trey-I.” I closed my eyes for a second and then jumped of the hood standing up. “I-God-.” Biting my lip hard trying to stop myself slapping him across the face. “I don’t know what you think, but I’m not the back seat kind of girl. I know that’s what you’re use to… I-.” I shook my head and chuckled bitterly to myself. “I would have said, yes to you… but in the back seat? What am I a two cent prostitute or a cheerleader?” God knows how many girls have been in that backseat, maybe that’s how he gets them, becomes the charming best friend and bang he is this horny teenager that wants to hump like rabbits in the back seat. “Maybe I should go.”

"Hey!" I exclaimed as I fell backwards and into the dirt. I stood up, brushing the dirt off of my butt and looking up at her helplessly. "No, I mean, that's not what I, that's not what I meant!" I said, trying to explain myself and taking a step backwards because she looked like she was about to hit me. "Don't go." I said pleadingly, "Listen," I added desperately, walking around to the back seat of the car, and opening it up. "I didn't mean to offend you. If you don't want to do that there, that's fine. You deserve better, and I'm sorry for giving you the idea that you didn't. But I thought it might be fun if we just..." I reached inside, pulling out a CD and a board game. "I brought Parcheesi and Sinatra. Your favorites. I wanted to surprise you, and wait until you were in the back seat before I, er, yeah. Nevermind." I sighed in defeat.

I smiled a little and walked over to him, placing the game and CD on top of the car and wrapped my arms around his neck. “Forgive me?” I said with a small pout. This must be the funniest mix up n history, I mean when a guy suggests a backseat who would except to find a board game? I kissed him softly. “Maybe later we can play Parcheesi, I’ll be blue and maybe we can bump into each other.” I raised an eyebrow, I was trying to make Parcheesi sexy and it wasn’t really working, because it was a family game. I couldn’t help but chuckle and a kissed him softly again. “What I mean is maybe we can find something other than a back seat of an expensive car.”

I smirked. Or perhaps it was a snicker? Either way, we were dancing again, though no better than we had been earlier.

No, that’s not true. She was closer, so I actually had a better hold on her, and it aloud for less room to trip up and stumble. Of course, chances were if someone stumbled over their own feet (or the partner opposite) both were going down. “Whenever you screw up, always blame other people.” I mused out loud in a thoughtful tone, nodding to what she had said earlier about the other people running into her, even though we both knew that wasn’t true. “It always works for me.”

The one time I looked at those dancing around us was simply for educational purposes. Honest. I noticed that the guys shifted, but not nearly as much as I had attempted earlier. More like a small shuffle. I tried this, and to my surprise, we didn’t fall! Or, you know, run into other people. I gave Tenli a triumphant look, proud we had managed to go a full minute without stumbling into one another. “See. This can be done.”

He’d made a lot of mistakes before. Okay, so that definitely wasn’t the answer I’d been looking for. And in spite of my intentions, a rather uncharacteristic understanding approach I had attempted to take on, he wasn’t cooperating and I was getting annoyed.

Though it could have just been an attribute of my impatient persona.

Glancing back out before me, I let out a long, deep sigh. Maybe this was where I was supposed to intervene and offer a statement of identification. Something like ‘we’ve all made mistakes.’ And then perhaps an, ‘it doesn’t make you a bad person.’ Except I didn’t, and I never would have previously. I didn’t plan on starting now. Instead, I continued to stare out in front, letting my back sink deeper into the rough coolness of the cement bench.

I wanted to know what mistakes he made. I couldn’t help it. It was in my inquisitively nosy demeanor. “I don’t feel very enlightened.” I mused simply enough, still staring aimlessly before me. In short, I wanted the juicy details. Or rather, just another distraction, as this one was wearing thin.
